Narrative
WE HAVE 3 FALCON 50'S; 2 WITH EFIS 86; 1 WITH PROLINE 4. AS CAPT; I LOADED FLT PLAN INTO FMS. FO WAS GOING TO FLY THIS LEG. HE HAS LOTS OF TIME IN THE FALCON AND LOTS OF EXPERIENCE FLYING OUT OF SNA. I DID NOT ENSURE THAT EFIS WAS CONFIGURED PROPERLY FOR THE DEP BECAUSE OF MY COMFORT LEVEL WITH FO. AFTER LIFT OFF; NO EFIS GUIDANCE ON FLT DIRECTOR. FO STARTED TURN TOO SOON AND WRONG DIRECTION. I CALLED FOR PROPER TURN AND SELECTED FMS ON MY EFIS; BUT FOUND I HAD NO NAV INFO AVAILABLE. ABOUT THIS TIME; SOCAL APCH ASKED WHERE WE WERE GOING. I INDICATED WE GOT BALLED UP ON THE DEP PROC. APCH THEN GAVE US A VECTOR TO JOIN A RADIAL. TWO SWITCHES LATER; I HAD GOOD NAV INFO; NO OTHER PROBS. I HAD ONLY FLOWN THIS EFIS SYSTEM 1 LEG IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS AND THERE ARE BIG DIFFERENCES THAT MAKE QUICK ACTION TO SELECT PROPER FUNCTION DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHER SYSTEM. I WAS BEHIND. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 665670: HAVING A BETTER BEFORE DEP BRIEFING WILL MAKE IT LESS LIKELY. HAVING THE EFIS SYSTEM AND FMS CONFIGURED AND CROSS CHKED WOULD ALSO HAVE HELPED.
