A C150 PLT APCHING AVP BECAME DISTR BY ICING AND DEVIATED FROM THE ASSIGNED ILS INTERCEPT HEADING.

Narrative

I WAS FERRYING A C150 ACFT FROM VT TO GA; IN IMC CONDITIONS. I'M FROM GA; AND HAVE NEVER FLOWN UP N. I'M A FLT INSTRUCTOR FOR A LOCAL FLT SCHOOL; BUT I HAVE NO C150 TIME. ON THE FIRST LEG OF MY TRIP I WAS DESCENDING IN TO AVP IN FULL IMC ON RADAR VECTORS FOR THE ILS APCH. I NOTICED A DROP IN RPM; AND THE PRESENCE OF ICE. I HAD BEEN ASSIGNED A HDG; TO INTERCEPT THE LOC; BUT I BECAME DISTR BY THE ICING SIT. IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED BEFORE. WHILE DEALING WITH THE ICE; I DEVIATED ABOUT 30 DEGS OFF MY ASSIGNED HDG; AND APCH SAW IT; AND ASKED ME TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION. BY THIS TIME I WAS ON THE LOC; FOR THE ILS; AND I HAD GONE FULL SCALE. AS I DSNDED SOME MORE; THEN I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE FIELD; AND LANDED WITHOUT ANY FURTHER PROBS. I BELIEVE THAT I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THIS ACFT AND FLYING IN ICE. I WAS ALSO UP AGAINST THE 6 MONTH CURRENCY REQUIREMENT FOR IFR. I BELIEVE THAT THIS TRIP TAUGHT ME A LOT ABOUT MYSELF AS A PLT AND OPENED MY EYES TO THINGS THAT I HAVE NOT SEEN. IN THE FUTURE; I WILL NOT FLY ACFT THAT I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH INTO IMC CONDITIONS.
