Synopsis

AN EMB140 WITH ENG ANTI-ICE VALVE MALFUNCTION WAS WORKED OFF LINE BY CONTRACT TECHNICIAN. WIRED THE HIGH STAGE VALVE CLOSED INSTEAD OF COWL VALVE.

Narrative

DURING CLBOUT ON OUR WAY TO ZZZ; THE CAPT PERFORMED THE FIRST FLT OF THE DAY ICE PROTECTION TEST (PNEUMATIC). ENG #2 FAILED THE TEST. WE CONTACTED MAINT CTL. THEY AND THE CAPT DETERMINED IT WAS OK TO CONTINUE TO ZZZ. WHEN WE ARRIVED IN ZZZ; CONTRACT MAINT WAS THERE. I DID A POSTFLT INSPECTION OF THE ACFT. BY THIS TIME THE MAINT GUY WAS ON TOP OF THE #2 ENG PYLON. I COMPLETED ALL DUTIES I COULD FOR THE NEXT FLT AND WENT TO THE TERMINAL. WHEN I CAME BACK; THE MAINT GUY WAS IN MY SEAT DOING AN ENG RUN. AFTER THIS; HE SIGNED OFF THE LOGBOOK AND WE BEGAN TO PREPARE FOR THE FLT BACK. DURING THE FLT BACK; THE CAPT AND I BEGAN TO DISCUSS WHAT WE SAW ON THE ANTI-ICE; AND IT JUST DIDN'T SEEM RIGHT. WE FELT WE SHOULD SEE AN 'OPEN' DESCRIPTION ON THE ANTI-ICE PANEL FOR ENG #2. WE MADE THE DECISION TO NOT ENTER ANY ICE CONDITIONS IN CASE THIS WAS NOT DONE CORRECTLY. DURING THE DSCNT; WE GOT A MESSAGE OF 'HIGH STAGE VALVE FAILED.' THIS MESSAGE CAME AND WENT A COUPLE OF TIMES. WE SAW IT ON THE PANEL ON THE DSCNT AND THEN A COUPLE OF TIMES ON FINAL APCH TO DFW. WHEN WE ARRIVED IN DFW; WE CONTACTED MAINT AND TOLD THEM WHAT WE SAW. THEY LATER SAID IT LOOKED LIKE THE MAINT GUY IN ZZZ WIRED THE WRONG VALVE; WHICH CONFIRMED TO US THAT WE HAD NO ANTI-ICING CAPABILITIES.
