HIGH PERFORMANCE HOMEBUILT SUSTAINS ALTERNATOR FAILURE ON NIGHTTIME TKOF.

Narrative

I DEPARTED RBD WITH THE INTENTION OF A DEST OF SEP. AFTER INITIATING THE ROLLOUT FOR TKOF; MY ENG MONITOR SYS BEGAN ALTERING ILLUMINATION BRIGHT AND LOW INTENSITY. NOT CONCERNED WITH THIS BEHAVIOR; DUE TO THE SURFACE OF THE ARPT; I CONTINUED TO ROTATE AT VR 95 KTS. AFTER POSITIVE RATE OF CLB AND STANDARD ALT; I RETRACTED MY TKOF FLAP SETTING. AT THIS TIME 1/2 THE RADIO EQUIP WENT INOP. CONCENTRATING MY EFFORTS ON MGMNT OF THE ACFT AND NECESSARY SURROUNDINGS; I RETRACTED MY GEAR. AT THIS TIME; I HEARD THE HYD PUMP ENGAGE. THIS IS WHEN I LOST ALL ELECTRICAL PWR AND PARTIAL GEAR RETRACTION. IMMEDIATELY I TURNED BACK TO THE ARPT AND BEGAN TO TROUBLESHOOT AND SQUAWK 7600 FOR EMER. WITH NO RADIO EQUIP WORKING; I'M SURE THAT TWR WAS UNABLE TO READ MY XPONDER. I THEN RESORTED TO SECONDARY MANUAL HYD SYS AND WAITED FOR LIGHT GUN SIGNALS. AT THIS TIME; I WAS SET UP FOR A L BASE LEG FOR RWY 31 AND PROCEEDED TO LAND. AT THIS TIME; I EXERCISED CAUTION FOR ANY OTHER TFC IN THE VICINITY. THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE IN THE PATTERN; SO I THEN TAXIED CLR OF RWY WHERE I WAITED FOR ANY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM TWR. AFTER WAITING AND NO RESPONSE; I THEN EXERCISED EXTREME CAUTION AND TAXIED TO PARK. AFTER SHUTDOWN; I CALLED THE TWR ON THE PHONE AND APOLOGIZED FOR ANY TROUBLE OR QUESTION. IN DETERMINING THE AFTERMATH; MY ALTERNATOR HAD FAILED ON ROLLOUT FOR TKOF. MY FMS FAILED TO PROVIDE ANY INDICATION DUE TO A DELAYED SYS OF EVERY 20-30 SECONDS. BY THE TIME IT WOULD HAVE SET OFF A LOW VOLTAGE ALERT; MY HYD PUMP AND ALL RADIO EQUIP AND LIGHTS DRAINED THE BATTERY. NO DAMAGE WAS CAUSED AND ALL PARTS WERE REPLACED WITH FACTORY NEW. THE ALTERNATOR HAD APPROX 200 HRS SINCE NEW. I MAINTAINED SAFETY OF FLT AND LANDED SAFELY.
