B737-300 EXPERIENCES DUAL IRS FAILURE. FLT CREW FOLLOWS APPROPRIATE IRREGULAR CHKLISTS AND LANDS SAFELY.

Narrative

DEPARTING BOS; RIGHT AFTER LIFTOFF WE NOTICED THE MASTER CAUTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITH IRS DISPLAYED. ONCE STABLE ON CLBOUT; WE FOUND BOTH IRS'S HAD 'DC FAIL' LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. I FLEW AND WORKED ATC WHILE THE FO RAN THE IRREGULAR CHKLIST. CHKLIST FAILED TO RESOLVE THE PROB. I CALLED DISPATCH AND REQUESTED MAINT PATCH-IN. FO NOW FLYING. MAINT UNABLE TO RESOLVE PROB. AT THIS POINT; THE IRREGULAR CHKLIST ADVISED A LNDG AT THE NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT. MAINT; DISPATCH; FO AND I ALL AGREED THIS WAS THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION. WHILE WORKING WITH MAINT; WE HAD LEVELED OFF AND REDUCED SPD. A QUICK CONSULTATION SHOWED ZZZ TO BE THE NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT. AN EMER WAS DECLARED WITH ATC. FLT ATTENDANTS AND PAX WERE BRIEFED. AFTER NORMAL CHKLISTS WERE COMPLETED; I RESUMED PF DUTIES. APCH; LNDG; AND ROLLOUT WERE UNEVENTFUL. WE WERE FOLLOWED TO THE GATE BY ZZZ WITH CFR EQUIP. PAX DEPLANED AT THE GATE IN ZZZ. I WAS THEN ABLE TO HAVE AN EXTENDED CONVERSATION WITH MAINT ABOUT THE PROB; AS BY THIS TIME WE WERE UNABLE TO NORMALLY PWR THE AIRPLANE AT THE GATE; AND THE ACARS HAD FAILED. IN SUMMARY; I FEEL WE HANDLED THIS INFLT EMER IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL ACR SOP'S AND RELEVANT FAR'S. AN OUTSTANDING JOB WAS DONE BY ALL MEMBERS OF MY TEAM.
