Narrative
I WAS COMPLETING AN IFR FLT. ATIS INDICATED WINDS FROM 310 DEGS AT 16 KTS. I REQUESTED AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO LAND ON RWY 27. WHILE ON FINAL TO LAND ON RWY 27; I WAS INSTRUCTED BY THE TWR THAT I WOULD BE UNABLE TO LAND AND TO CROSS OVER RWYS 2/20 AND ENTER A R DOWNWIND FOR RWY 20R. I FOLLOWED THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND WAS CLRED TO LAND. FINAL APCH SEEMED STABLE. JUST UPON TOUCHING DOWN; A STRONG GUST FROM MY R CAUSED ME TO MOVE TO THE L AND I HIT AT LEAST 1 RWY LIGHT; BREAKING OFF A WHEEL PANT AND BREAKING MY NOSEWHEEL STRUT WITH A RESULTING PROP STRIKE. BECAUSE OF THE WIND DIRECTION AND GUSTY CONDITIONS; I BELIEVE THAT THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO INCIDENT IF I HAD LANDED ON RWY 27 AS ORIGINALLY CLRED. I DO NOT THINK I SHOULD HAVE EASILY ACCEPTED THE LAST MOMENT REASSIGNMENT TO RWY 20R; BUT RATHER SHOULD HAVE REQUESTED ANOTHER APCH TO RWY 27 OR APPROVAL TO PROCEED TO ANOTHER ARPT WITH A MORE SUITABLE RWY FOR THE CONDITIONS PRESENT AT THE TIME. HOWEVER; RWY 27 BEING OPEN AND AVAILABLE; I BELIEVE THAT GIVEN THE CONDITIONS PREVAILING THAT ATC SHOULD NOT HAVE INSTRUCTED ME TO CHANGE TO A MUCH LESS APPROPRIATE RWY.
