B737-500 ON APCH TO YVR RECEIVED WINDSHEAR ALERT. STARTED RECOVERY MANEUVER BUT EXITED THE SHEAR QUICKLY. DISCONTINUED THE RECOVERY AND LANDED STRAIGHT AHEAD.

Narrative

YVR APCH INFORMED US ON INITIAL CONTACT OF MODERATE TURB BELOW 8000 FT IN VICINITY OF ARPT. THEY ALSO ADVISED US OF WINDSHEAR OF 5-10 KTS RPTED AT OR AROUND 1000 FT AGL. ON APCH; WE HAD A GOOD RIDE UNTIL TURNING BASE DSNDING THROUGH 3000 FT FOR 2000 FT. CLRED THE APCH TO RWY 8L. GOT CONTINUAL MODERATE TURB ON APCH WITH +15 TO -5 KTS. SURFACE WINDS WERE 090 DEGS AT 12 KTS. WINDS AT OUR ALT 040 DEGS AT 25 KTS. IN VFR CONDITIONS AT 1000 FT; WE GOT A +20 KTS FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF 10 KTS. I APPLIED MAX PWR TO GET AIRSPD BACK. SIMULTANEOUSLY; GOT AFDS WINDSHEAR WARNING. HAND FLYING APCH; APPLIED PWR AND BEGAN TO GO AROUND WHEN AIRSPD RECOVERED AND WE FLEW THROUGH THE WINDSHEAR. HAVING NOT YET CLBED ABOVE GS AND ALL INDICATIONS APPEARED NORMAL; ELECTED TO CONTINUE APCH TO A NORMAL LNDG. FLT BELOW THE 1000 FT WAS SMOOTH. I DID NOT ELECT TO DO WINDSHEAR RECOVERY PROFILE FOR SEVERAL REASON: 1) NO CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY. 2) SHEAR WAS A WIND EVENT. 3) ALT ABOVE GND. 4) ACFT RETURNED TO A NORMAL STATE. WE HAD A SHORT NIGHT THE EVENING BEFORE IN OKC. DUE TO COMPUTER OUTAGE; WE ARRIVED OKC AT XA30. GOT TO SLEEP AROUND XB30. WOKE UP 6 HRS LATER. FATIGUE MAY HAVE HAD A MINOR IMPACT ON DECISION.
