Synopsis

A G4 DEPARTING DFW ON THE RNAV NOBLY2 WENT N OF COURSE DIRECT LIT AFTER A FLT PLAN CHANGE DROPPED ORTRO INTXN.

Narrative

DURING CLB OUT OF DFW; JUST PAST NOBLY INTXN; THE CTLR ASKED US WHERE WE WERE GOING. WE TOLD HIM; 'LIT.' HE THEN SAID WE WERE N OF COURSE AND TURN R 20 DEGS WHEN ABLE DIRECT TO ORTRO INTXN. WE ENTERED THE WAYPOINT AND WENT THERE. THE CTLR SAID WE HAD STRAYED IN TO THE ARR TFC TO DFW AREA. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM AROSE BECAUSE OF SEVERAL FACTORS. 1) OUR PAX SHOWED UP 30 MINUTES EARLY. 2) WE HAD LOADED THE DEP (THE DALLAS8). WHEN I GOT OUR CLRNC; WE WERE CLRED BY THE NOBLY2. I DELETED THE DALLAS8 AND LOADED THE NOBLY2. WHEN I DID THIS; I ALSO DROPPED THE REST OF OUR FLT PLAN OUT EXCEPT FOR OUR DEST. I DID NOT REVIEW THE FLT PLAN AFTER WE STARTED TO TAXI. AT DFW WHEN YOU FLY AN RNAV DEP YOU CHK IN WITH THE 'QUEUE' CTLR NEAR THE END OF THE RWY. THEY ASK YOU YOUR FIRST WAYPOINT; WHICH WAS NAVYE. YOU ARE THEN TOLD TO CONTACT TWR. 3) I WAS USING AN EFB (ELECTRONIC FLT BAG) AND NOT A PAPER CHART OF THE SID. WHEN I USE THE EFB; I HAVE TO MAGNIFY THE CHART SO MUCH THAT NOT ALL THE CHART IS ON THE SCREEN. ALL I WAS LOOKING AT DURING THE CLB WAS THE ARPT AND THE RNAV WAYPOINT UP TO NOBLY INTXN. I FEEL THE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE: 1) I WAS RUSHED AND KEPT ON GOING; INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN OR JUST STOPPING (I RUSHED MYSELF; I THOUGHT I HAD IT ALL GOING FINE). 2) I LOADED A DEP THAT I HAD TO CHANGE TO THE DEP GIVEN IN THE CLRNC. 3) I INADVERTENTLY DUMPED MY ACTIVE FLT PLAN OUT OF THE FMS AND FAILED TO NOTICE IT. 4) MY INEXPERIENCE IN THE ACFT. I THINK THE CORRECTIVE ACTION THAT WOULD HELP WOULD BE THE FOLLOWING: WHEN LOADING THE DEP IN THE FMS ON THE NOBLY2; THERE SHOULD BE NO OPTION TO SELECT THE LIT TRANSITION SINCE THE NOBLY2 GOES ONLY TO LIT. IF YOU DON'T SELECT THE LIT TRANSITION; THE SID ENDS AT NOBLY INTXN. ALSO; I THINK IF WHEN WE WERE ASKED OUR FIRST WAYPOINT ON THE DEP BY THE 'QUEUE' CTLR AND HAD BEEN ASKED OUR LAST WAYPOINT AS WELL; I MAY HAVE CAUGHT THE DEFECT IN THE FLT PLAN. I FEEL IF I HAD A PAPER BACKUP TO THE EFB; I MAY HAVE CAUGHT THE ERROR BEFORE WE FLEW OFF COURSE. LOAD ONLY THE RTE YOU ARE GIVEN; NOT ONE YOU EXPECT TO GET. ALWAYS REVIEW YOUR FLT PLAN BEFORE YOU START TO TAXI.
