B747-400 FLT CREW; WHILE TAXIING; HAS AN INADVERTENT COLLISION WITH ANOTHER ACFT.

Narrative

AFTER NORMAL PUSHBACK AND 4 ENG START; WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI FROM THE RAMP VIA TXWY A TO RWY 16; WITH CLRNC TO CROSS RWY 27(WHICH WAS CLOSED). THE WX WAS GOOD AND THE VISIBILITY WAS EXCELLENT. AS WE ENTERED TXWY A NBOUND; I NOTICED THAT A B767 WAS PARKED ON TXWY E; PERPENDICULAR TO TXWY A AND THAT THE TAIL OF THE B767 WAS PROTRUDING INTO TXWY A. GIVEN THAT TXWY E CROSSED TXWY A; AND THE LARGE FILLETS ON THE E SIDE WHERE TXWY E INTERSECTED TXWY A; I FELT THAT THERE WAS ROOM TO THE R TO COMFORTABLY MOVE AROUND THE B767. I MOVED R AND WAS MONITORING THE R WINGTIP SPACING WITH THE B767 TAIL. ONCE I FELT THAT THE R WINGTIP WAS CLR OF THE B767 TAIL; I LOOKED AT THE B767 R WING TO ASSURE CLRNC. AT THAT TIME I TURNED BACK TO THE R. AT NO TIME DID I FEEL THAT WE WERE THAT CLOSE TO THE B767. SHORTLY THEREAFTER; I FELT THE ACFT SHUDDER SLIGHTLY; WHICH I ASSUMED WAS FROM JETWASH FROM THE B767. SOMEONE ON THE ATC GND FREQ STATED SOMETHING LIKE 'THE 747 WINGTIP CLIPPED THE 767 TAIL.' I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE ACFT; LOOKED AT THE L WINGTIP AND SAW DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE WINGLET. WE IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN ENGS #1 AND #2 IN CASE THERE WAS FUEL LEAKING. WE THEN STARTED THE APU AND SHUT DOWN ENGS #3 AND #4. AFTER THAT; WITH NO VISIBLE DAMAGE (IE; FUEL LEAK); I CALLED THE PURSER TO LET HER KNOW WHAT HAPPENED; AND MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE PAX.
