A B737-300 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE INCORRECT FLT CTL PANEL INSTALLED IN THE COCKPIT OVERHEAD P-5 PANEL.
Narrative
ON THE NIGHT OF JAN/MON/06; ACFT TERMINATED AT GATE FOR LINE ROUTINE OVERNIGHT MAINT. UPON SPEAKING WITH THE FLT CREW; THE CAPT SPOKE OF VARIOUS ITEMS THAT REQUIRED MAINT ATTN. IN REF TO THE FLT CTL PANEL; THE CAPT MENTIONED THAT THE FEEL DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE LIGHT ON THE FLT CTL PANEL WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN PUSHED TO TEST; NOR WOULD IT LIGHT UP WITH ALL THE OTHER LIGHTS. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACTUAL FEEL DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE IT WOULD WORK. FOR THIS REASON; IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE PANEL WOULD BE CHANGED. THE PANEL THAT WAS REMOVED; X; S/I 0270280; WAS REPLACED WITH Y; S/I 0270279; AND SIGNED OFF ON JAN/TUE/06. WHEN CHKING PART COMPATIBILITY; THE ACFT TAIL NUMBER; THE ATA CODE; AND THE S/I NUMBER WERE ENTERED. WITH THIS INFO; A PARTS EFFECTIVITY SCREEN APPEARED FOR ACFT X ATA 27. THE EFFECTIVITY SCREEN THAT APPEARED LISTED THIS PARTICULAR PART IN QUESTION; S/I 0270279. ONLY BY LINE SELECTING THIS PARTICULAR PART AND THEN PRESSING ENTER WOULD THE SPECIAL INFO SCREEN APPEAR. HAD THE SPECIAL INFO CRITERIA SCREEN APPEARED BEFORE THE PARTS EFFECTIVITY SCREEN; THE INCORRECT PART WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON ACFT X.
