AN MD80 FLT DEPARTED DFW'S RWY 17R ON THE NOBLY 2. AFTER NAVYE INTXN; FLT WAS CLRED DIRECT NOBLY INTXN; WHICH CAUSED DOWNSTREAM FMC DEP FIXES TO DROP OUT.

Narrative

FLT DEPARTED NORMALLY FROM DFW RWY 17R ON THE NOBLY 2 DEP. PRE-DEP CHKS OF THE RTE/LEGS WERE NORMAL...WE BOTH REFERENCED THE DEP PLATE FOR THE POINTS AS WELL AS THE FLT PLAN AND USED THE PLAN MODE TO CROSSCHECK. ALL POINTS WERE 'IN THE BOX.' WE CONTACTED DFW QUEUE WITH 'RWY 17R -- NAVYE' AND PROCEEDED TO TWR. NO SIGNIFICANT ACFT ISSUES EXCEPT THE RIGHT FMS WAS PLACARDED INOP. NORMAL TKOF AND INITIAL CLB TO NAVYE -- THEN THE L TURN TOWARDS JGIRL. PART WAY THROUGH THE TURN; DEP CLRS US DIRECT TO NOBLY. I SELECT THE POINT FROM THE LEGS PAGE; VERIFY WITH THE CAPT WHO'S HAND FLYING; AND EXECUTE. WE ARE IN LNAV/VNAV. WE PROCEED DIRECT TO NOBLY; BUT EVIDENTLY THE FMS DROPPED COBUG AND ORTRO OUT OF THE POINTS LIST; WHICH WE OBVIOUSLY MISSED. WE INITIATE A NORMAL CLB OUT OF 17000 FT; AND GET HANDED OFF TO FTW CTR. EVIDENTLY WE'RE PROCEEDING OUTBND DIRECT FROM NOBLY TO LIT; THE LOST POINTS WERE S OF THE RTE. DFW CTR ASKS US ABOUT OUR CLRNC; AT WHICH TIME WE ARE PAST COBUG BUT FAIRLY NEAR ORTRO; WE REENTER ORTRO AND PROCEED TO IT AND THEN ON TO LIT. DFW GIVES US A TELEPHONE NUMBER WHICH THE CAPT USES TO CONTACT THE SHIFT SUPVR. NO OTHER POINTS WERE AFFECTED AFTER THE INITIAL ERROR. IN THE FUTURE I'LL BE A LOT MORE WARY OF DEP AND ARR CHANGES AND REVERIFY THAT ANY INSTANCES OF PROCEEDING DIRECT DIDN'T MAKE A SURPRISE CHANGE TO THE FMS LEGS AND ROUTING. PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES SHOWED ME THAT GOING DIRECT WOULD ELIMINATE/CHANGE ANY PRECEDING POINTS; WHILE THIS EVENT AFFECTED POINTS AFTER THE SELECTED DEST.
