BE35 PVT PLT MADE APCH TO WRONG RWY WHILE DISTR WITH OTHER ACFT PROBS.

Narrative

I WAS DIRECTED BY THE TWR TO LAND ON RWY 36. THEN TWR WARNED ME OF NUMEROUS DEER ON RWY. I THEN ANNOUNCED ENTERING DOWNWIND FOR RWY 36; YET TURNED DOWNWIND FOR RWY 18. I CONTINUED UNTIL AT SHORT FINAL FOR RWY 18. I WAS AT THAT POINT DIRECTED BY THE TWR TO ABORT AND DO A TEARDROP RE-ENTRY FOR SHORT FINAL RWY 36 AND LANDED. I HAD LINED UP FOR THE WRONG RWY. THERE HAD BEEN FLT CONCERN ABOUT 40 MINS. A SMALL AMOUNT OF HYD FLUID (OR OIL) MISTED MY WINDSHIELD. DURING PREFLT I HAD NOTICED HYD FLUID HAD SEEPED OUT OF THE NOSE STRUT. IT WAS SMALL ENOUGH THAT IT WASN'T GOING TO EFFECT MY CONTINUATION. I WAS GOING TO HAVE THE MECH LOOK AT IT; IN OLIVE BRANCH. WHEN THE PUFF OF FLUID APPEARED ON MY WINDSHIELD; I INCREASED MY INTERNAL SCAN OF ALL CRITICAL INSTS. I WAS CONCERNED; HAD THE STRUT GOTTEN WORSE OR WAS IT MY PROP STARTING TO BLOW OIL. AT INITIAL CONTACT WITH TWR; THEY INFORMED THAT SEVERAL DEER WERE ON THE RWY AND TO TAKE CARE WHILE LNDG. THIS OBVIOUSLY FURTHER STRETCHED MY CONCERNS. WITH ALL THIS; I ENTERED PATTERN FOR RWY 18; NOT RWY 36 AS DIRECTED. WHILE IN THE PATTERN FOR RWY 18; THE TWR WAS CONTINUALLY COMMUNICATING THE LAST DEER LOCATIONS ON THE RWY. I REQUESTED THE TWR TO HAVE SOMEONE DRIVE OUT TO CHASE THE DEER AWAY. THE TWR STATED THAT THE REQUEST BUT WOULD BE ABOUT 10 MINS MORE; BUT IF I LANDED LONG IT SHOULD BE OK! TURNING FINAL FOR RWY 18; THE TWR REALIZED I WAS LINED UP FOR THE WRONG RWY. THEY THEN DIRECTED ME TO ABORT MY LNDG. NO OTHER ACFT WERE IN THE PATTERN AND NONE WERE READY TO TAKE OFF. I APOLOGIZED TO THE TWR AND THEY STATED IT WAS NOT A PROB. I HAD ALLOWED MYSELF TO GET OVERLY CONCERNED ABOUT NUMEROUS INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ISSUES AND LINED UP FOR THE WRONG RWY. LANDED SAFE. MISSED ALL THE DEER. LANDED VERY SOFT TO PRESERVE THE NOSE STRUT. IT WAS VFR WITH 15 MI VISIBILITY AND DAYLIGHT. I MADE A VERY BASIC MISTAKE; BUT FEEL I HAVE DRIVEN HOME A BASIC CHK TO REMEMBER.
