BEECH 33 PLT ATTEMPTS TO TAKE OFF AT NIGHT FROM LAL. HE IS STOPPED BY SECURITY AND NOTIFIED THAT IT IS NOTAMED ILLEGAL.

Narrative

FLEW TO LAL. AFTER THE EVENT; SEVERAL ACFT STARTED UP; TAXIED OUT AND DEPARTED. WHEN I TAXIED ALONG TO CATCH UP; ALL ACCESS POINTS TO THE RWY HAD CONES BLOCKING ACCESS TO THE RWY. I TRIED DIFFERENT POINTS WITH NO SUCCESS. I CALLED ON THE GND FREQ FOR ADVISORIES; BUT GOT NO RESPONSE. I MADE MY WAY BACK TO THE THRESHOLD OF RWY 27L WHERE I WAS MET BY A VERY UPSET ARPT SECURITY PERSON. SECURITY ADVISED ME THAT NO ACFT OPERATION WAS ALLOWED WHERE I WAS AFTER SUNSET. I ASKED ABOUT THE OTHER ACFT AND WAS TOLD THEY DEPARTED ILLEGALLY FROM THE S SIDE OF THE FIELD. 'IT IS IN THE NOTAM;' SECURITY EXCLAIMED. SINCE I HAD NEVER DEPARTED AFTER DARK FROM LAL; I ASSUMED IT WAS OK. AFTER MUCH APOLOGIES AND ADMITTING TO NOT READING THE NOTAM COMPLETELY; I WAS ALLOWED TO DRAG THE ACFT ACROSS TO THE N SIDE AND DEPART LEGALLY. MORAL OF THE STORY: 1) DON'T ASSUME ANYTHING NO MATTER HOW OFTEN YOU HAVE MADE THE TRIP. 2) READ THE NOTAM COMPLETELY; NOT JUST WHAT YOU THINK YOU MIGHT NEED. 3) BE NICE TO ARPT SECURITY (ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE WRONG). 4) READ THE NOTAM AGAIN.
