CAK CTLR EXPRESSED CONCERN REGARDING NEW STAFFING GUIDELINES THAT WERE DEVELOPED BY BOTH MGMNT AND THE UNION.

Narrative

OUR UNION REPRESENTATIVE AND MGR HAVE CHANGED OUR SHIFTS TO PROVIDE MORE AVAILABILITY FOR THE USE OF ANNUAL LEAVE AT THE COST OF SAFETY. WE NOW HAVE ONLY 1 6:00 A.M. CTLR TO RELIEVE THE MIDNIGHT CTLR. THIS 1 PERSON MUST WORK ALL POS UNTIL HELP COMES IN AT 6:30 A.M. (THIS IS SIGN-ON TIME AND NOT WHEN THEY ACTUALLY CAN START HELPING.) I TOLD BOTH THE MGR AND THE UNION REPRESENTATIVE THAT YOU SHOULD NOT EXPECT THE MIDNIGHT PERSON TO HELP. (WE WORK DAYS AND THEN SWING TO A MIDNIGHT. USUALLY WE HAVE WORKED 16 HRS OF THE LAST 25 HRS WITH LITTLE SLEEP.) AT 6:20 A.M. I HAD SEVERAL THINGS GOING ON. I WAS ON LINE WITH FLOW CTL TO ACQUIRE A RELEASE FOR 1 ACFT WHILE VECTORING AN ACFT INBOUND CAK; VECTORING ANOTHER ACFT INBOUND BJJ; TAXIING 1 ACFT OUT; HAVING 1 ACFT PUSHING BACK; ANOTHER ACFT PUSHED BACK READY TO TAXI; AND WHILE THIS WAS OCCURRING ANOTHER ACFT CALLED FOR A CLRNC. IT WAS IFR AND THERE WERE 6 OTHER IFR CLRNCS POSTED. THE POTENTIAL WAS VERY HIGH FOR A SLIP-UP. SHOULD I GET HELP FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS WORKED THE LAST 7 HRS WITHOUT A BREAK (AND ALSO WORKED 16 OF THE LAST 25 HRS). THAT'S CRAZY. SAFE -- I DON'T THINK SO. STRESSFUL? DEFINITELY. ABSOLUTELY WRONG.
