Narrative

CLBING THROUGH 13500 FT WHILE HAND FLYING THE AIRPLANE WE HAD A R ENG FAILURE. I APPLIED L RUDDER AND LEVELED AT 14000 FT APPLIED RUDDER TRIM AND TURNED ON THE AUTOPLT WHILE THE CAPT AND RELIEF FO RAN QRC ITEMS AND CHKLIST TO SECURE THE ENG. WE INITIATED A TURN BACK AFTER COMMUNICATING WITH DEP. I CONTINUED TO FLY THE AIRPLANE WHILE THE CAPT AND RELIEF FO COORD WITH ATC; FLT ATTENDANTS AND DISPATCH IN TURN PASSING ON INFO REGARDING OUR CONDITION. AFTER EMER CHKLISTS WERE COMPLETE WE DISCUSSED THE RETURN APCH PLAN IN ACCORDANCE WITH OUR DEP BRIEFING AND ELECTED TO RETURN WITHOUT DUMPING GAS AFTER CHKING LNDG DISTANCE. WE THEN CONFIRMED ALL IRREGULAR AND NORMAL CHKLISTS WERE COMPLETE AND FINALIZED PLANS FOR APCH. LNDG WAS MADE WITHOUT INCIDENT AND TAXI BACK TO GATE ACCOMPLISHED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 705089: R ENG CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. FO WAS FLYING AND CONTINUED TO FLY ACFT THROUGH LNDG. ELECTED TO RETURN. CHKED LNDG PERFORMANCE DATA AND ELECTED TO LAND OVERWT VERSUS DUMP FUEL. REQUESTED EMER VEHICLES. COMPLETED ALL CHKLISTS; LANDED; AND TAXIED TO GATE WITHOUT INCIDENT.
