Narrative
SECOND LEG OF 10 LEG IOE FOR MYSELF. THE CAPT DEMONSTRATED THE FIRST LEG AND LNDG INTO DFW AND THIS WAS LITERALLY MY FIRST LEG ON THE ACFT EVER AFTER COMPLETING SIMULATOR TRAINING A FEW DAYS EARLIER. AS THE PF; I WAS THE ONE WHO PROGRAMMED THE FMS; ALBEIT INCORRECTLY; AS I SOON FOUND OUT. WE WERE CLRED TO TKOF RWY 17R OUT OF DFW TO FLY THE TRISS 2 DEP; TXK TRANSITION. ENRTE FROM THE TRISS INTXN TO TXK NAVAID; WE MISSED THE SHERO INTXN. THIS INTXN IS ONLY A FEW DEGS HDG CHANGE; BUT ZFW CALLED US ON IT SAYING 'YOU ACR X GUYS ALWAYS MISS THAT AND NEED TO BE MORE CAREFUL.' HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? EASY -- I PROGRAMMED THE FMS INCORRECTLY. I PUT IN THE SID AND TXK BUT I LEARNED THAT; ALTHOUGH I TYPED TXK; I ALSO NEEDED TO SELECT TXK AS A TRANSITION FROM THE SID. THE WAY I HAD IT PROGRAMMED; IT GAVE ME A RTE DISCONTINUITY WHICH I SIMPLY CLRED UP AND THOUGHT NOTHING OF. I NEVER PICKED UP ON THIS SUBTLE BUT VERY IMPORTANT POINT IN TRAINING AMIDST ALL THE V1 CUT; ETC. IN RETROSPECT; I THINK I HAD BEEN PROGRAMMING THE FMS 'MY WAY' ALL THROUGHOUT SIMULATIONS AND NOBODY EVER CAUGHT IT ('JUST GET SOMETHING IN THE BOX'). I WILL SAY; HOWEVER; TRAINING AT ACR X WAS EXCELLENT. THIS IS JUST THE RESULT OF SOMETHING I MISSED. LASTLY; THIS WAS MY FIRST TRIP AFTER RETURN FROM FURLOUGH AND MIL LEAVE IN 3 1/2 YRS AND THIS IS MY FIRST 'ALL GLASS' JET.
