UPON NOSEWHEEL TOUCHDOWN WITH A SLIGHT L XWIND; AN EMB135 EXPERIENCED A R VEER THAT WAS CORRECTED WITH L RUDDER APPLICATION.

Narrative

UPON NOSEWHEEL TOUCHDOWN WITH WT ON MAIN LNDG GEAR; THE ACFT PULLED/VEERED R AND WAS QUICKLY ARRESTED WITH APPLICATION OF L RUDDER. LNDG WAS CONDUCTED WITH A SLIGHT L WING LOW AND SLIGHT R RUDDER TO ACCOUNT FOR A SLIGHT L XWIND. EICAS MESSAGES WERE NEVER PRESENTED BEFORE OR AFTER THE INCIDENT. CORRECTION ARRESTED THE R VEER WITHOUT APPLICATION OF THE STEERING DISCONNECT BUTTON. INCIDENT OCCURRED SO QUICKLY THAT DISCONNECT WAS NOT APPLIED. THE 'PULL/VEER' R WAS FELT BY THE FO AND FLT ATTENDANT. THE ACFT WAS QUICKLY DECELERATED TO A SLOW TAXI SPD WITHOUT FURTHER REOCCURRENCE. SUSPECT FAILURE OF NOSEWHEEL STEERING RELATED SYSTEM. EMBRAER AND MAINT PURSUE IDENTIFICATION OF DEFECT FOR CORRECTION TO PRECLUDE RWY EXCURSION.CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HIS COMPANY HAS ISSUED A PROC FOR THIS TYPE OF EVENT. BECAUSE OF HIS ACFT'S AIRSPD; HE BELIEVES THAT THE REMAINING RUDDER EFFECTIVENESS OVERCAME THE R NOSEWHEEL STEERING COMMAND AND HE DID NOT NEED TO DISCONNECT STEERING AS THE PROC DICTATES. THE RPTR ALSO STATED THAT IN A PREVIOUS INCIDENT WITH A HARD R NOSEWHEEL INPUT; THE PROC WAS NOT EFFECTIVE AND THE ACFT DEPARTED THE RWY.
