Narrative
WHILE BEING IN CRUISE LEVEL FLYING IMC; I ASKED CTR TO DEVIATE FOR WX BUILDUP TO THE W. AT THAT TIME CTR GAVE ME THE ALTIMETER SETTING '2991.' WITHIN 5 MINS I WAS ASKED TO RECHK MY ALTIMETER SETTING. I SAW MY ALTIMETER 8200 FT. WHILE WATCHING CONDITIONS OF MY WINGS I NOTICED I HAD SOME CTL ISSUES AND NOTICED A R FLAP (ONLY) EXTENSION OF APPROX 5 DEGS. TOLD CTR 'I SEEM TO HAVE AN EXTENDED FLAP PROB AND IT IS HARD TO CTL THE ACFT. WILL I BE EXPERIENCING ANY FURTHER WX (IFR-VMC) FOR THE REST OF MY FLT.' CTR REPLIED 'YES HVY PRECIP IN VICINITY AND THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE. ARE YOU DECLARING AN EMER.' MY RESPONSE WAS 'NO; FULL CTL WITH MINOR DIFFICULTY. I WILL FLY THE PRESENT HDG AND TRY TO FIX IT. BUT NOT LONG; I WANT TO FIX IT BEFORE THE GULF.' CTR SAID; 'ROGER.' APPROX 5 MINS LATER I CALLED BACK WITH NOT REPAIRING FLAP ISSUE AND ASKED WHERE WAS THE 'CLOSEST ARPT.' AFTER VARIOUS OPTIONS GIVEN ACCEPTED TNT WHICH WAS 15 MI E OF MY POS. CTR SAID 'CLRED TO TNT DSND TO THE ARPT.' I SAID 'I WILL TURN R AND DSND' BUT ACTUALLY MADE A L TURN THAT PROGRESSED INTO A SPIN. AFTER RECOVERING FROM SPIN I CONTINUED R TURNING DSCNT. ASKED CTL FOR TNT FREQ. CONDITIONS AND RWY LENGTHS WHERE GIVEN. ADDITIONALLY WAS INSTRUCTED TO 'STAY WITH CTR UNTIL SAFELY ON THE GND.' ON APCH TO RWY 9 STRAIGHT IN I PERFORMED 2 RETRACTIONS OF FLAPS AND GEAR DID A LOW APCH; AND ON SHORT FINAL APCH I SAID '...I SEEMED TO HAVE CORRECTED MY PROB.' CTR REPLIED 'STATE INTENTIONS.' I SAID 'CAN I ASSUME NAV TO KKEYW?' CTR REPLIED 'R TURN DIRECT KKEYW CLB AND MAINTAIN 6000 FT.
