A V35 PLT DAMAGED THE PROP WHEN HE LANDED GEAR UP BECAUSE OF DISTR WHILE RUNNING THE CHKLIST.

Narrative

VFR ARR AT DCU; ENTERED L DOWNWIND TO RWY 36. ON BASE LEG STARTED THE BEFORE LNDG CHKLIST USING IT AS A 'DO' LIST SO AS NOT TO MISS ANYTHING. AS I REACHED FOR THE LNDG GEAR LEVER; I NOTICED I WAS SLOWER THAN I WANTED TO BE; SO I WENT TO THE THROTTLE AND ADVANCED IT. I THEN FAILED TO GO BACK TO THE LNDG GEAR LEVER AND CONTINUED ON WITH THE CHKLIST. ON FINAL I MADE ONE MORE QUICK GLANCE AT THE GEAR LIGHTS; FLAPS; AND AIRSPD INDICATOR AND CONVINCED MYSELF THAT EVERYTHING LOOKED CORRECT. (THE SUN SHINING IN MAY HAVE HELPED CONVINCE MY MIND THAT THE LIGHTS WERE GREEN INSTEAD OF NOT ILLUMINATED.) AS I CONTINUED TO LNDG I APPARENTLY NEVER RETARDED THE THROTTLE BACK FAR ENOUGH TO ENGAGE THE GEAR WARNING HORN BECAUSE I NEVER GOT ONE UNTIL IN THE FLARE; WHICH I ATTRIBUTED TO STALL WARNING ON LNDG FLARE. IN FLARE PROP STRUCK THE RWY AND I SLID TO A STOP. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS -- LOW TIME IN ACFT; USING A CHKLIST AS A 'DO' LIST; AND NOT RECHKING THOROUGHLY. NOT RECOGNIZING THE PROPER SIGHT PICTURE FOR LNDG AND NOT RECOGNIZING IN THE FLARE THAT THE HORN I HEARD WAS THE GEAR WARNING AND NOT THE STALL WARNING. AS I PULLED THE PWR BACK IN THE FLARE I ALSO WAS ADJUSTING PITCH AND THOUGHT THE HORN WAS A STALL WARNING BECAUSE I REDUCED PITCH AND HORN STOPPED AND THEN INCREASED PITCH AND HORN SOUNDED LEADING ME TO THINK I MOVED IN AND OUT AND BACK INTO STALL WARNING HORN AS PROP STRUCK RWY. NO INJURIES OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY OTHER THAN PROP AND UNDER CARRIAGE SCRAPING.
