Narrative
ABOUT 50 MI TO THE S OF THE CHEYENNE; WY; ARPT; I WAS TRYING TO PICK UP THE ATIS BROADCAST BEFORE TALKING TO CHEYENNE APCH. UPON HEARING IT ALL IT SAYS IS; 'DUE TO RAPIDLY CHANGING CONDITIONS; CURRENT CONDITIONS WILL BE ISSUED ON INITIAL CALL TO APCH.' THE CURRENT WX AT THE TIME WAS ABOUT A 1500 FT CEILING AND VISIBILITY GREATER THAN 6 MI. THERE HAD BEEN SOME SNOW EARLIER IN THE DAY. BY NOT GIVING US THE CURRENT WX AHEAD OF TIME IT DOES NOT GIVE US ADEQUATE TIME TO FIGURE OUT WHICH APCH WE CAN PLAN ON DOING AND TIME TO BRIEF IT. WE WERE ABLE TO BRIEF THE APCH BUT HAD TO REQUEST DELAY VECTORS IN ORDER TO DO SO. ALSO BY NOT GIVING ANY WX AT ALL IT DOES NOT EVEN LET US KNOW IF WE HAVE THE WX TO START THE APCH. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT THEY GIVE US SOME WX ON THE ATIS BROADCAST EVEN IF THE WX IS A FEW MINS OLD. THIS WOULD AT LEAST GIVE US AN IDEA WHAT THE WINDS AND VISIBILITY ARE AND GIVE US TIME TO FIGURE OUT WHAT APCH WE CAN PLAN ON. I FEEL THAT THIS CURRENT PRACTICE THAT THEY HAVE COULD LEAD TO PROBS.
