EMB170 CREW FAILS TO COMPLY PRECISELY WITH VISUAL APCH CLRNC.
Narrative
WE WERE ON VISUAL APCH FOR RWY ILS RWY 16L AT DEN. WE WERE NE OF THE ARPT AND OUR ORIGINAL CLRNC WAS APPROX 210 DEG HDG TO INTERCEPT THE FINAL APCH COURSE JUST N OF THE JOBOB FIX. THE NEXT CLRNC WAS 'DIRECT LEETS (FAF) CLRED VISUAL APCH RWY 16L.' AT THIS TIME (AUTOPLT ON) I THEN TURNED THE HDG INDICATOR TOWARDS LEETS (FAF); ARMED THE APCH MODE; STARTED TO COMMAND LNDG CONFIGNS; BUT I FORGOT TO COMMAND THE FO TO ENTER DIRECT LEETS (FAF) INTO THE MCDU (FMS). OUR CURRENT COURSE WAS GOING TO INTERCEPT THE FINAL APCH COURSE APPROX 3 MI N OF THE LEETS (FAF). THEN THE DEN APCH CTLR ASKED US IF WE HAD GONE DIRECT LEETS (FAF) AT WHICH TIME WE TOLD HIM THAT WE DID NOT. THE DEN APCH CTLR THEN HAD TO TELL THE AIRPLANE BEHIND US TO TURN 20 DEGS R HDG TO MAINTAIN SEPARATION. AT THAT TIME NOTHING ELSE WAS SAID. THE FO HAS LESS THAN 50 HRS AND I HAVE ONLY 152 HRS IN THIS AIRPLANE. THIS IS ALSO MY FIRST CAPT SEAT AND YOU MIGHT SAY THAT WE ARE ALMOST GREEN ON GREEN. I CONSIDER MYSELF AND THE FO TO BE CONSCIENTIOUS PLTS BUT A MISTAKE WAS STILL MADE AND NEITHER OF US CAUGHT IT! THE BOTTOM LINE THOUGH IS THAT I AM PIC AND IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE MISTAKES ARE NOT MADE! AS A GOOD PLT I MUST ALWAYS REEVALUATE MY ACTIONS AND CORRECT THEM IF NECESSARY.
