ACR CREW ENCOUNTERS DIFFICULTIES CHANGING RWYS DURING THE SEAVU1 ARR INTO LAX.
Narrative
WE WERE HANDED OVER TO APCH LATE AND DIDN'T CONNECT THE RWY TRANSITION WITH THE ARR. DURING ARR INTO LAX ON THE SEAVU ONE; WE WERE HELD UP AT KONZL AT 17000 FT WITH A LATE CHECK IN TO SOCAL APCH. WE WERE PAST TRTLE AT 17000 FT WHEN WE FINALLY GOT TO SOCAL. THEY CLRED US TO 12000 FT THEN GAVE US THE SEAVU ONE; RWY 25R. WE WERE TO CROSS DIXXN AT 12000 FT DESCEND VIA THE ARR; RWY 25R; CLRED THE ILS RWY 25R AFTER MUSIK. WE HAD RWY 24R AS THE RWY AND WHEN THE FO CHANGED TO RWY 25R; HE FORGOT TO REINSERT THE ARR. WE THEN LOST THE FIXES FOR THE ARR. IN TRYING TO GET THE BOX SET UP RIGHT WE JUST DIDN'T GET IT DONE IN TIME AND WENT PAST THE TURN ON TO THE ARR FOR RWY 25R. APCH GAVE US A HDG BACK TO THE RWY 25R LOC AND AFTER ASKING IF WE HAD THE FIELD CLRED US FOR THE VISUAL RWY 25R. NO ALTS WERE MISSED AND THERE WASN'T ANY OTHER ACFT AROUND. ONCE WE GOT ON THE LOC AND GS; EVERYTHING WENT NORMAL. NO COMMENTS FROM APCH. WE WERE OFF THE ARR AND COULD SEE THAT THE ARR WAS NOT STRUNG TOGETHER. WE QUICKLY; TOO QUICKLY; TRIED TO GET THE PROPER RWY IN THE BOX. DO THINGS A LITTLE SLOWER AND CROSS CHECK WITH THE OTHER PLT BEFORE HITTING THE INSERT BUTTON. ALSO; I HAD THOUGHT THAT RWY 25R WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER RWY AS COMING IN FROM THE SOUTHWEST IS WHAT YOU GET MOST OFTEN. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE DIRECT IN MY SUGGESTION. ALSO; HAVE THE RWY 25R ARR SET UP IN THE SECONDARY FLT PLAN. WE SHOULD BE MORE AGGRESSIVE WITH LAX WHEN WE KNOW WE ARE PAST THE CHANGEOVER POINT. WE HAD THE OLD BOX AND I BELIEVE THE NEWEST BOX WITH ITS NEW SOFTWARE WOULD HAVE WORKED BETTER.
