Narrative
SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTING ZZZ; THE RIGHT ACFT TEMP HI LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE CAPT RAN THE PROC IN THE QRH. THE LIGHT WENT OUT. THE FLT ATTENDANTS THEN RPTED THAT THEY HAD SMOKE AND FUMES IN THE CABIN. WE ALSO BEGAN SMELLING FUMES IN THE COCKPIT. THE RIGHT ACFT TEMP HI LIGHT THEN CAME BACK ON. AT THIS POINT WE BOTH DECIDED WE SHOULD RETURN TO ZZZ. WE DECLARED AN EMER WITH ZZZ DEP CTL AND GOT A TURN BACK TO THE W TOWARD THE AIRFIELD. THE CAPT RAN THE APPROPRIATE CHKLIST AND COORDINATED WITH THE FLT ATTENDANTS FOR THE EMER LNDG. WE EXECUTED AN UNEVENTFUL VISUAL APCH AND LNDG AT ZZZ. WE EXITED THE RWY AND STOPPED IN THE PAD WHERE THE FIRE EQUIP WAS WAITING FOR US. THE FIRE CHIEF CHKED THE EXTERIOR OF THE ACFT WHILE THE CAPT MADE A PA TO THE PAX AND TALKED WITH THE FLT ATTENDANTS. THEY STATED THAT THE SMOKE AND FUMES HAD DISSIPATED. THE FIRE CHIEF STATED THAT THEY NOTED NOTHING UNUSUAL WITH THE ACFT. WE TAXIED TO THE GATE; PARKED AND DEPLANED THE PAX. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE ACFT HAD A HISTORY CONCERNING SMOKE AND FUMES IN THE CABIN.
