A B737-700 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE INCORRECT ESCAPE SLIDE INSTALLED AT THE R AFT SVC DOOR.
Narrative
ON JAN/THU AT ABOUT XA40 A GATE CALL CAME OVER THE RADIO ASKING MAINT TO CHK THE AFT SVC DOOR EVAC SLIDE FOR SVCABILITY. 2 OF MY FELLOW MECHS RESPONDED TO THE CALL AND DETERMINED IT NECESSARY TO CHANGE THE SLIDE. THEY CALLED OUT ON THE RADIO INFORMING US ALL OF THE SITUATION. I HEARD THE CALL AND ANSWERED THEIR REQUEST FOR AID. I PULLED WHAT I BELIEVED TO BE THE APPROPRIATE SLIDE AND CHKED IT USING MAINT COMPUTER PARTS COMPATIBILITY. I THEN CALLED TO CONFIRM WE HAD THE SLIDE AND TO INFORM THEM I WOULD BE DELIVERING IT TO THEM ASAP. I ALSO REQUESTED THAT THEY REMOVE THE OLD SLIDE TO EXPEDITE THIS TASK. UPON MY ARR I FOUND THE CANISTER POSITIONED AND READY FOR THE NEW SLIDE. HAVING HELPED SECURE THE NEW SLIDE; I IMMEDIATELY PROCEEDED TO ENTER THIS ACTION INTO THE ACFT LOGBOOK. ALL THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED BY XB00 FOR WHAT I THOUGHT TO BE AN ON-TIME DEP. HAVING HAD TIME NOW TO REFLECT ON THE EVENTS OF THAT MORNING; I BELIEVE A SIMPLE ERROR WHILE TYPING IN THE ACFT TAIL NUMBER WAS MADE; I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THE EAGERNESS OF OUR TEAM TO EXPEDITE THIS TASK AND REMOVING THE SLIDE FROM THE WORK AREA PREVENTED US (ME) FROM NOTICING THE DIFFERENCE BTWN THE SLIDES. I WAS NOT AWARE THAT DAY OF THE NECESSITY TO VERIFY THE TYPE OF SLIDES PRESENT THROUGHOUT THE ACFT OR OF THEIR COMPATIBLE.
