AN A300 FLT CREW CLIMBING OUT OF ONT ON THE POM7 SID FAIL TO CROSS POM AT 7000 OR BELOW.
Narrative
WHILE LOOKING OVER THE POM7 SID DURING PREFLT; I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A XING RESTR AT POM OF 7000 FT MAX. I TWISTED IN 7000 FT IN THE ALT ALERTER; AS OUR FMS DOES NOT HONOR ALTS IN A CLB. LATER; WHEN THE PDC ARRIVED IT HAD CLRED US TO 14000 FT AND I TWISTED THAT INTO THE ALT ALERTER; FORGETTING ABOUT THE 7000 FT. IT WAS THE FO'S LEG AND HE WAS BRIEFING THE DEP AND I ALLOWED MYSELF TO BE DISTR WITH SOME OTHER PAPERWORK; AND DID NOT PAY ATTN THAT CLOSELY TO WHAT HE WAS SAYING. DURING CLBOUT PASSING THROUGH APPROX 8500 FT; SOCAL DEP ASKED IF WE WERE AWARE OF THE XING RESTR AT POM. I SAID YES IT IS 7000 FT AND NOTED WE WERE AT POM. THE CTLR REPLIED 'JUST CHKING.' ALL OF THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF: I HAD NOT ALLOWED MYSELF TO GET HURRIED WHEN THE PDC ARRIVED AND PUT IN 14000 FT. BOTH THE FO AND I DISCUSSED THE XING ALT IN THE BRIEF. AS CAPT IT'S MY JOB TO MAKE SURE ALL ITEMS ARE BRIEFED AND UNDERSTOOD. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: IT WAS MY SECOND LEG AFTER BEING OFF FOR A MONTH. COMMERCIAL CHARTS ARE STILL NOT SECOND IN NATURE TO ME AND THEIR 8.5 X 11 INCH SIZE MAKES THEM DIFFICULT TO USE ON A YOKE CLIP. I'LL AVOID THIS PROB IN THE FUTURE BY SLOWING DOWN IN THE PREFLT AND BEING MORE INVOLVED IN THE BRIEF.
