C206 PLT RPTS NEAR COLLISION WITH TRACTOR TRAILER RIG ON ROAD RUNNING PERPENDICULAR TO APCH END OF RWY 19 AT ZZZ.

Narrative

ZZZ HAS A ROAD THAT RUNS PERPENDICULAR TO RWY 19; ABOUT 550 FT FROM THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD OF THE RUNWAY. IN ADDITION; THERE IS A LINE OF TREES THAT MAKE THE L SIDE OF THE ROAD NOT VISIBLE TO ACFT ON APCH. THE 'ROAD CROSSING HEIGHT;' BASED ON A THREE (3) DEG GS IS ONLY 30 FT. WHILE ON SHORT FINAL; A TRACTOR TRAILER EMERGED FROM BEHIND THE TREE LINE. AN IMMEDIATE GAR WAS INITIATED; AS IT WAS FELT THAT THE 'PASSING' DISTANCE WAS GOING TO BE TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT. A GAR WAS EXECUTED; AND THE ACFT RE-ENTERED THE PATTERN FOR ANOTHER LNDG. AFTER LNDG; PLTS NOTICED TRACTOR TRAILER STOPPED BY THE SIDE OF ROAD; SPEAKING WITH POLICE. PLTS WALKED OVER TO TALK TO THE TRUCK DRIVER AND POLICE. TRUCK DRIVER STATED THAT HE FELT THE ACFT GO OVER; AND THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THE TIRES TOUCHED THE TOP OF HIS TRAILER. AN INSPECTION OF THE TRAILER; AND ACFT; SHOWED THAT THIS DID NOT OCCUR. PLTS SPOKE WITH FAA INVESTIGATOR; VIA PHONE; AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THIS WAS A 'NON-EVENT'. TRUCK DRIVER DEPARTED; PLTS STOOD AROUND AND SPOKE WITH POLICE FOR A LITTLE WHILE; AND THEN DEPARTED. AS A NOTE; POLICE WERE NOT CALLED. POLICE OFFICER HAPPENED TO BE DRIVING BY; AND WAS WAVED DOWN BY TRUCK DRIVER; WHO WAS VISIBLY SHAKEN. THE 'ROAD CROSSING HEIGHT' OF THIS RWY IS VERY LOW; ONLY 30 FT. TYPICAL TRACTOR TRAILER IS APPROX 12 FT. THIS ONLY LEAVES 18 FT OF CLRNC. HOWEVER; IN ORDER TO ENSURE THIS CLRNC; THIS PLT WOULD LIKE TO MAKE THE FOLLOWING SUGGESTIONS; IN THE INTEREST OF AVIATION SAFETY. 1) PUT A REMARK IN THE AFD FOR THIS ARPT STATING: LOW ROAD CROSSING HEIGHT; CAUTION FOR LARGE TRUCKS. 2) THERE IS NO VASI/PAPI INSTALLED AT THIS ARPT. INSTALL A VASI/PAPI SYSTEM SET AT ABOUT A 4 OR 4.5 DEG GS. 3) CUT DOWN THOSE DARNED TREES THAT OBSCURE THE L SIDE OF THE ROAD.
