DO328 CREW OMITS A WAYPOINT DURING PREFLT PROGRAMMING OF THE FMC AND FAILS TO NOTICE THE ERROR PRIOR TO FLYING THE RTE. ZAU CTR GETS THEM BACK ON COURSE.
Narrative
ALTHOUGH BOTH THE ATC CLRNC AND THE FMS PROGRAMMED FLT RTE WERE REVIEWED; A NAVIGATION WAYPOINT (IE; SAMPL INTXN) WAS MISSED. WE DID NOT SEE THAT SAMPL WAS MISSING FROM THE FMS PROGRAMMED ROUTING. OUR CROSS-CHECK WAS NOT AS COMPLETE AS WE HAD THOUGHT. WE WERE IN CHICAGO CENTER AIRSPACE IN THE VICINITY OF THE FABIO INTXN. A FLT RTE DEV OCCURRED; BECAUSE THE FLT RTE PROGRAMMED IN THE FMS DID NOT CORRESPOND TO THE ATC CLRNC RECEIVED FROM MILWAUKEE CLRNC DELIVERY. INSTEAD OF PROCEEDING TO THE SAMPL INTXN BEFORE TURNING EASTBOUND TO THE ADIME INTXN; AN EASTBOUND TURN WAS INITIATED TOWARDS ADIME AFTER REACHING FABIO. THIS NAVIGATION ERROR WAS BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION BY CHICAGO CENTER. THEY GAVE US HEADINGS TO CORRECT THE SITUATION AND THEN ULTIMATELY CLRED US BACK ON COURSE TO DAYTON. AS EXPLAINED ABOVE; CHICAGO CENTER BROUGHT THE DEV TO OUR ATTENTION. ATC ISSUED A NEW CLRNC IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE DEV. I BELIEVE THAT MORE TIME NEEDS TO BE SPENT ON ENSURING THAT THE FMS PROGRAMMED FLT RTE MATCHES THE ATC CLRNC. ALSO; THIS ERROR CAN EASILY OCCUR WHEN FMS STORED FLT PLANS ARE BEING USED BY FLT CREWS ON A REGULAR BASIS.
