ON APPROACH TO ATL ILS RWY 09R. RADAR VECTORS FROM RIGHT BASE TO FINAL. ASSIGNED ALTITUDE 3500 FT. APPROACH CONTROLLER ASKED IF WE COULD FOLLOW TRAFFIC TO RIGHT; OR WOULD YOU LIKE THE ILS. WE REQUESTED THE ILS. HEADING ASSIGNED TO 060 DEGS. TRAFFIC AGAIN CALLED OUT BY CONTROLLER. AT THIS TIME WAKE TURBULENCE EXPERIENCED; AUTOMATION DISRUPTED. CLEARANCE TO INTERCEPT RWY 09R LOC WAS NOT HEARD. CONTROLLER NOW STATES WE'RE THROUGH FINAL; TURN RIGHT TO 160 DEG HEADING TO INTERCEPT RWY 9R LOC. PARALLEL TRAFFIC CALLED OUT TO OUR LEFT; OUR REPLY WAS NOT IN SIGHT. NO TCAS ADVISORIES. CONTROLLER STATES WE'RE HIGH...I STATED THAT WE'RE DESCENDING TO 3500 FT CONTROLLER ISSUES NEW HEADING 180 DEGS. AUTOMATION RE-ESTABLISHED. VECTORS FOR DOWNWIND; BASE AND FINAL WERE COMPLETED.SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 740693: WHILE ON VECTORS FOR THE ILS PRM RWY 9R ATL AND LEVELING AT 3500 FT THE ACFT PASSED THROUGH WAKE TURBULENCE THAT CAUSED THE AUTOMATION TO FAIL. AT THE SAME TIME; ATC WAS ASKING IF WE COULD MAINTAIN SIGHT OF THE TFC IN FRONT OF US. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO DO SO; THE ACFT DEVIATED BELOW 3500 FT PRIOR TO INITIATING A CORRECTION. THE FLT CREW EITHER MISSED THE CLRNC TO INTERCEPT FINAL OR ONE WAS NOT ISSUED. WHILE CORRECTING BACK TO ALT; THE ACFT DEVIATED ABOVE ASSIGNED ALT. AT THIS TIME; THE FLT CREW QUERIED ATC AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THEY WERE CLRED FOR THE APCH AT WHICH POINT THE ACFT WAS PASSING THROUGH FINAL. ATC THEN STARTED ISSUING VECTORS AND BROUGHT THE ACFT BACK AROUND TO RE-INTERCEPT THE ILS RWY 9R FOR AN UNEVENTFUL APCH AND LNDG. AT NO POINT DID WE RECEIVE ANY ALERTS FROM THE TCAS.
