A B737-832 ACFT MECHANIC DISCOVERED LATER; AFTER HE HAD ALREADY SERVICED THE L/H AND R/H MLG; HE HAD MEASURED THE 'X' DIMENSION FROM THE WRONG POINT.

Narrative

I WAS ASSIGNED TO WORK ACFT X. THE TASK I WAS ASSIGNED WAS SVC LNDG GEAR. I WAS WORKING FROM JOB INSTRUCTION CARD. AS I WAS WORKING ON THE MAIN LNDG GEAR; I WAS INFORMED THAT MGMNT WANTED TO MOVE THE ACFT BEFORE SHIFT CHANGE. I COMPLETED THE SVCING OF THE L AND R MAIN LNDG GEAR AND MOVED MY TOOLS AWAY FROM THE ACFT. I WAS THEN ASKED TO ASSIST IN MOVING THE ACFT. AFTER MOVING THE ACFT I PUT AWAY MY TOOLS AND RETURNED THE SVCING EQUIP TO THE TOOL ROOM. I COMPLETED THE JOB INSTRUCTION CARD FOR THE L AND R MAIN LNDG GEAR IN PREPARATION FOR SHIFT CHANGE. THE REMAINING ITEMS ON THE CARD WERE NOSE LNDG GEAR SVCING AND PLACING OP. I TURNED OVER THE JOB INSTRUCTION CARD TO THE ONCOMING SHIFT. AFTER TURNOVER; I WAS CHKING THE AREA I WAS WORKING FOR CLEANLINESS AND NOTICED THE STRUT EXTENSION DID NOT LOOK CORRECT. I CHKED THE JOB INSTRUCTION CARD AND DISCOVERED I MEASURED THE 'X DIMENSION FROM THE WRONG POINT. STRUT EXTENSION WAS 1/2 INCH TOO HIGH. I NOTIFIED THE ONCOMING LEAD MECH OF THE ERROR. HE TOLD ME HE WOULD HAVE A MECH RECHK THE STRUT EXTENSION AND PRESSURE.
