C182 PLT ENCOUNTERS WAKE TURB FROM PASSING BEECHJET WHEN SWITCHING RWYS AS APPROVED BY LCL CTLR AT CSM.

Narrative

DURING RECENT FLT OPS WHERE MYSELF AND SEVEN OTHER COMPANY PLTS WERE USING A TRAINING ARPT; ALONG WITH FOUR MIL JET PLTS; A RWY INCURSION OCCURRED. THE CTLRS HAD A HEAVY LOAD; BUT EVERYONE HAD BEEN WORKING TOGETHER WELL. I WAS ON A FIVE MILE FINAL IN TRAIL OF COMPANY TFC BY ABOUT TWO MILES AND WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 17L. JET TFC WAS DOING TOUCH AND GOES ON RWY 17R. WE WERE USED TO THEM FLYING PAST US TOWARDS THE PARALLEL RWY. WE HAD ALSO BEEN USING RWY 17R WHEN THEY WERE NOT CLOSE BECAUSE IT SAVED US A LOT OF TAXI TIME. ON THIS APCH; WHILE LINED UP ON THE L RWY; A JET WENT PAST ME FOR A TOUCH AND GO ON THE R. THE CTLR; AFTER THE ACFT TOUCHED DOWN; STATED TO ME THAT I COULD CHANGE TO RWY 17R. I ANSWERED THAT I WOULD LIKE THAT. HE CLRED ME TO LAND ON RWY 17R. I TURNED R TO THE NEW RWY AND A JET FLEW PAST ME. I FLEW INTO THE WAKE TURB AND HAD TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION; BUT WAS ABLE TO LAND SAFELY. THE CTLR APOLOGIZED NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE RADIO. I STATED TO HIM I WAS FINE AND THAT NO HARM WAS DONE. I FEEL THE CTLR HAD A HEAVY LOAD OF TFC AND LOST HIS CONCENTRATION FOR A MOMENT; AND DIDN'T NOTICE THE JET ON FINAL. MY MISTAKE WAS ALWAYS TRUSTING THE CTLRS AND NOT LOOKING BEHIND ME FAR ENOUGH BEFORE TURNING. THE JET PLT SAID NOTHING OVER THE RADIO. HE WENT BY ME SO FAST; HE MAY NOT HAVE NOTICED THE INCIDENT; OR AT LEAST HE KNEW HE HADN'T DONE ANYTHING WRONG.
