Narrative
SHORTLY AFTER TKOF WE WERE ADVISED BY TWR THAT THE ACFT FOLLOWING US OBSERVED WHAT APPEARED TO BE RUBBER TIRE PIECES DEPARTING OUR GEAR ON TKOF. THEY SAID THEY WOULD INSPECT THE RWY AND ADVISE US OF THEIR FINDING THROUGH A RELAY ON THE RADIO FREQ WE WOULD BE WORKING. LHR CTL SHORTLY THEREAFTER ADVISED THAT; INDEED; THEY DID FIND TIRE RUBBER ON THE RWY THAT CAME FROM OUR ACFT. WE CHKED OUR GEAR SYNOPTIC AND ALL OTHER SYS SYNOPTICS AND COULD DETERMINE NO ADVERSE INDICATIONS FROM THE TIRE FAILURE. WE CHKED WITH THE FLT ATTENDANTS AND NONE OF THEM HEARD OR SENSED ANYTHING THAT WOULD INDICATE THAT WE BLEW A TIRE. WE; SUBSEQUENTLY; RELAYED THE INFO TO DD SO THEY WOULD BE AWARE OF THE SIT. UPON DSCNT TO ORD WE COORDINATED WITH DD TO LAND ON RWY 4R BECAUSE THE WINDS WERE 220 DEGS/21 KTS GUSTING 27 KTS AND WE WOULD ENCOUNTER VERY LITTLE XWIND ON LNDG. WE WERE INFORMED BY OUR MAINT RELEASE BEFORE DEP THAT THE #1 REAR TIRE HAD SOME METAL DAMAGE BUT WAS GOOD FOR 8 MORE LNDGS. ARMED WITH THIS INFO AND THE FACT WE REALLY DID NOT KNOW WHAT EXACTLY WE WERE WORKING WITH; AS CONCERNING THE GEAR AND TIRES; WE ELECTED TO LAND ON RWY 4R TO MINIMIZE THE XWIND COMPONENT AND MAXIMIZE THE HEADWIND FACTOR FOR OUR LNDG. WE REQUESTED THAT FIRE/RESCUE EQUIP OBSERVE OUR LNDG JUST IN CASE AN ADVERSE SIT SHOULD DEVELOP. OUR FLT ATTENDANTS WERE INFORMED AND READY IF ANY ADVERSE SIT SHOULD DEVELOP ON LNDG; HOWEVER; WE TOLD THEM IT WOULD MOST PROBABLY BE A NORMAL LNDG AND TAXI IN. AFTER LNDG; WHICH WAS UNEVENTFUL; THE CITY INSPECTOR DROVE AROUND OUR PARKED ACFT AND INFORMED US THAT ALL TIRES LOOKED NORMAL EXCEPT THE L AFT ON THE L SIDE; WHICH WAS BALD. WE EXPECT THAT WE THREW A RETREAD ON TKOF. WE CANCELED THE ASSISTANCE OF THE TRUCKS AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO TAXI TO THE GATE.
