B767 FLT CREW IS INFORMED OF ATC OUTAGE IN BRAZIL 4:00 INTO THEIR FLT AND TOLD TO RETURN TO MCO BY THEIR COMPANY.

Narrative

ABOUT 100 MILES S OF MIAMI; OUR FLT RECEIVED A SELCAL FROM DISPATCH INFORMING US THAT AMAZONICA (SBAZ) CTL WAS NOT ACCEPTING ANY ACFT AT THIS TIME DUE TO A COMPLETE ATC SHUTDOWN. ALL BRAZIL BOUND ACFT WOULD HAVE TO LAND SHORT OF BRAZILIAN AIRSPACE. DISPATCH REQUESTED WE OVERFLY MIAMI AND LAND AT MCO; AS MIA HAD NO PERSONNEL TO HANDLE. WE ASKED FOR AND RECEIVED A CLRNC FROM MIAMI ATC TO PROCEED TO MCO. AFTER CONFERRING WITH DISPATCH ON PERFORMANCE AND MAINT ISSUES; WE COMPLETED AN OVERWEIGHT LNDG ON RWY 36R AT APPROX 355.0 LBS; FLAPS 25. AN OVERWEIGHT LNDG MAINT INSPECTION WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITHOUT DELAY; WE WERE FUELED AND ON OUR WAY TO SBGR IN LESS THAN 1 HOUR AT THE GATE.SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 746663: TWO HOURS INTO MY BREAK; I WAS AWAKENED BY FLT ATTENDANT WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO RETURN TO COCKPIT BECAUSE WE WERE LNDG IN MCO. BRAZIL ATC HAD STOPPED ACCEPTING TFC SO WE WERE TURNED AROUND. SINCE WE WERE ONLY FOUR HOURS INTO A 10 HOUR FLT; WE HAD A GREAT DEAL OF FUEL AND NEEDED TO LAND HEAVYWEIGHT. TOUCHED DOWN IN MCO AT 355;000 LBS. MAINT ACCOMPLISHED THE HEAVYWEIGHT LNDG CHECK AND WE WERE CLRED FOR DEP ABOUT AN HOUR LATER.
