A B737-700 ACFT ARRIVED WITH #2 ENGINE ANTI-ICE VALVE LIGHT ON. MAINT LOCKED VALVE IN OPEN POSITION.
Narrative
I WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT ENG ANTI-ICE LIGHT. RAN ENG #2 WITH THE HELP OF THE CREW TO OPEN POSSIBLE STUCK VALVE SINCE IN TRANSIT. I WAS ON GND WITH HEADSET. CAPT TOLD ME LIGHT STILL ON. RIGHT AWAY CALLED MAINT CTL FOR A SWAP. HE SAID NOT ENOUGH TIME. TOLD HIM IT IS BETTER TO FIND A SWAP. WE ARE SHORTHANDED. ASKED ME HOW LONG NEEDED. OPS SAID NO GATE AVAILABLE. PULLED UP MEL AND GOT A PLACARD. WENT OUT TO OPEN ENG (COWLS); NO PUMP AVAILABLE. OPENED MANUALLY. LOCKED ANTI-ICE VALVE IN OPEN POS. COULD NOT REMEMBER WHICH VALVE IS HIGH STAGE; STARTED TO READ OFF OF IT. IT ONLY SAID 'VALVE.' AT THIS TIME SENT MY COLLEAGUE TO GET AMM REF. AT THIS TIME PRESSURE WAS ON TO CANCEL OR TO GO. I THOUGHT SMALLER VALVE WAS HIGH STAGE. AFTER INCIDENT FOUND OUT THAT WAS B737-300/500. SO WITH THE HELP OF RAMP; CLOSED THRUST REVERSER. I WAS TOLD NEXT DAY BEFORE COMING TO WORK IT LANDED IN XXX. CAPT ALSO CALLED ASKING ME ABOUT HIS THRUST AND LIGHT. HAD HE TOLD ME THAT HE HAS NO BLEED ON HIS #2 ENG WITH A GAUGE ABOVE HIS HEAD; WE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DIRECT HIM BETTER. THEN HE SAID 'NEVER MIND; TEMP IS COLDER;' SO HE FIGURED IT OUT. ALWAYS HAVE ALL OF THE MANUALS NEEDED -- NO MATTER IF THE FLT CANNOT MAKE IT ON TIME; OR CANCELLATION.
