A CESSNA CLIMBING OUT OF PAQ HAD AN NMAC WITH A PIPER.

Narrative

I WAS IN A CRUISE CLB AFTER DEPARTING THE PALMER; AK; ARPT. THIS FLT CONCLUDED A 2 DAY AERIAL/VISUAL SURVEY. WE HAD FLOWN ABOUT 4.5 HRS OF SURVEY DURING THE DAY AT ABOUT 500-1000 FT AGL. MY R FRONT SEAT CREW MEMBER/OBSERVER CALLED OUT TFC. I ASKED FOR A POS AND HE TOLD ME OFF THE R. I DID NOT IMMEDIATELY SEE THE RPTED TFC SO I BANKED THE AIRPLANE TO THE L. ONCE I ENTERED THE L TURN I SAW THE AIRPLANE APPEAR FROM BEHIND THE R FRONT DOOR POST. THE AIRPLANE WAS ABOUT 1200 FT AWAY AND CONVERGING ON OUR TRACK. THE HIGH WING PIPER PA11/12/18 STYLE AIRPLANE PASSED BEHIND AND SLIGHTLY BELOW OUR ACFT. I DON'T THINK THE PIPER SAW OUR ACFT UNTIL HE WAS WITHIN ABOUT 120 FT AWAY. THE PIPER APPEARED TO DSND SLIGHTLY FROM THE FIRST POS THAT I SAW HIM SINCE HE WAS AT OUR SAME ALT WHEN I FIRST SAW THE AIRPLANE. A MIDAIR COLLISION OCCURRED NEAR THIS LOCATION LESS THAN 2 YRS AGO. I NORMALLY TRANSIT THIS GEOGRAPHICAL AREA ABOVE 2500 FT IN ORDER TO BE ABOVE THE LCL TFC. THERE IS A VERY HIGH DENSITY OF PVT AIRSTRIPS WITHIN 5 MI OF THE LOCATION OF THIS NEAR MISS EVENT.
