B737-700 INGESTED AIR HOSE INTO LEFT ENG AFTER PARKING AT GATE.
Narrative
ARRIVED AT GATE WITH #2 ENG SHUT DOWN; EXPECTING GND PWR; NO AIR SVCS. WE CLRED THE SAFETY ZONE L AND R; PULLED INTO THE GATE; SET PARKING BRAKE AND AWAITED GND PWR HOOKUP. THE MARSHALLER INDICATED GND PWR CONNECTION AND I LOOKED UP TO VERIFY PROPER GND PWR INDICATION AND TO SELECT GND PWR ON. AT THE SAME TIME; THE ACFT STARTED SHAKING AND I SHUT DOWN #1 ENG; LOOKED OUTSIDE AND SAW THE MARSHALLER POINTING TOWARD THE JETWAY. INITIALLY I THOUGHT THE JETWAY WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND BUMPING THE SIDE OF THE ACFT. I OPENED MY SIDE WINDOW AND ASKED WHAT HAPPENED AND IF EVERYONE WAS OK. WE DID THE SHUTDOWN CHKLIST. I EXITED THE FLT DECK AND WENT DOWN TO THE RAMP TO FIND THE JETWAY AIR HOSE IN THE #1 ENG. APPARENTLY THE CART THAT THE HOSE RESTS ON MOVED OUT TOWARD THE ENG AS THE JETWAY WAS MOVED INTO PLACE; ALLOWING THE HOSE TO BE PULLED INTO THE ENG. GND OPS NEEDS TO MAKE SURE THAT THE AIR HOSE CART IS LOCKED TO THE JETWAY BEFORE WE ENTER THE SAFETY ZONE. MAYBE WE COULD PAINT THE LOCKING LEVER BRIGHT ORANGE OR RED TO DRAW ATTN TO THIS.
