Narrative
IN DEC/XA/07 AFTER ARRIVING FROM ZZZ (WE ARRIVED ALMOST 3 HRS LATE); I DECIDED TO GO TO OPS BEFORE DRIVING HOME (1+45 DRIVE). I NOTICED THAT I HAD BEEN 'JUNIOR MANNED' TO FLY TO ZZZ THAT SAME EVENING. THIS MEANT I WAS TO CATCH THE EMPLOYEE BUS AND DRIVE HOME (THIS WOULD TAKE 2+15). THEN; I WAS TO PACK FOR A NEW TRIP; GET UNINTERRUPTED CREW REST; AND THEN DRIVE BACK TO THE ARPT. I HAD BEEN GIVEN UNDER 14 HRS TO ACCOMPLISH ALL OF THIS; AND SHOW UP TOTALLY RESTED FOR MY FLT TO ZZZ. I FELT THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD GET THE REQUESTED REST; AND CALLED CREW SCHEDULING AND ANNOUNCE I WAS 'FATIGUED.' THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IN MY 18 YR CAREER I HAD EVER CALLED IN FATIGUED. AS IT WAS; WHEN I DID GET HOME; I DID MANAGE TO SLEEP 4 HRS; WAKE UP AND FEEL 'GROGGY' FOR 4 HRS; AND THEN BACK TO SLEEP FOR 9 1/2 HRS OF SLEEP. I THEN FLEW THE NEXT MORNING AND FELT FINE FOR THAT TRIP. THERE WAS NO WAY I WOULD HAVE EVER BEEN PROPERLY RESTED FOR THE ALL-NIGHTER TO ZZZ. I KNOW CONTRACTUALLY THE COMPANY IS ALLOWED TO SCHEDULE RESERVE PLTS TO 'BACK TO BACK' ALL NIGHTERS. THIS IS AN UNSAFE POLICY; AND PLACES GREATER PRIORITY ON PLT PRODUCTIVITY THAN SAFETY. PLEASE FIX THIS UNSAFE PRACTICE!
