B737 FO QUESTIONS THE NEED FOR SUPERFLUOUS INFORMATION INCLUDED IN LENGTHY ORD ATIS PRINTOUT.

Narrative

IN CRUISE; WE REQUESTED THE ORD ATIS VIA ACARS. ORD TWR INCLUDES MANY ITEMS ON THE ATIS THAT NEVER CHANGE. THIS MAKES THE ATIS PRINTOUT VERY LENGTHY. GENERALLY; WE SCAN TO CHK THAT IT'S ALL THE SAME STUFF. ORD WAS LNDG ON RWY 14R AND VISIBILITY WAS BELOW CAT 1 MINIMUMS. WE PROGRAMMED THE FMC AND PREPARED FOR A CAT 2 APCH FOR RWY 14R. AFTER CHKING THE NOTAMS AGAIN; WE FOUND THE NOTAM THAT RWY 14R CAT 2/3 IS NOT AVAILABLE. UPON CLOSER SCRUTINY; THE ATIS ALSO INCLUDED A SHORT NOTE THAT THE CAT 2/3 APCHS WERE NOT AVAILABLE; BUT IT WAS BURIED DOWN ABOUT 3/4 OF THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE ATIS. WE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE MISSED IT IF WE WEREN'T LOOKING FOR IT. I WAS FURLOUGHED FOR OVER 4 YRS. WHEN I RETURNED; THE ATIS STILL SAYS; 'PLTS USE CAUTION FOR BIRD ACTIVITY...' THIS AND OTHER MESSAGES; LIKE MEN AND EQUIP WORKING ON THE ARPT; SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ATIS. PLEASE ENCOURAGE ORD TWR TO TAKE THAT OUT OF ATIS SO THAT SOMEONE DOESN'T OVERLOOK AN IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFO BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE THE SAME 5 INCHES OF PAPER THAT ALWAYS PRINTS OUT FOR ORD ATIS.
