CORPORATE FLT CREW MISREADS FINAL ALT ON COMMERCIAL WEVIC RNAV SID AERO CHART FROM SLC. THE '6' IN 'AT OR BELOW 16000 FT' AT GITLIN INTXN LOOKING MORE LIKE AN '8' TO THE CREW.

Narrative

WE TOOK OFF FROM RWY 17 AT SLC ARPT. THE CLRNC WAS ISSUED FOR THE NEW WEVIC1.BLD SID. UPON LINE UP AND HOLD THE TWR ASKED TO CONFIRM FIRST WAYPOINT TO BE HOPTO. CREW VERIFIED IN FMS AND CONFIRMED WITH TOWER. AFTER HAND OFF TO DEP CTL AT ABOUT 10000 FT MSL AND PNF CHKED IN WITH 'ALTITUDE LEAVING; CLBING 18000.' DEP CTL CORRECTED THE ASSIGNED ALTITUDE TO BE 16000 FT (AS PER RNAV DEP PROC) WHICH THE CREW COMPLIED WITH. CREW WAS STILL ASKED TO PHONE SLC TRACON AFTER LNDG. SUPVR THEN INFORMED CREW THAT THEY WOULD NOT FILE A DEV; BUT RATHER GIVE OUT 'FREEBIES.' WE SUGGEST TO CHANGE THE FONT ON THE PUBLICATION; SINCE NUMBER 6 CAN EASILY BE MISTAKEN FOR A NUMBER 8 (WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED). THEY DO USE OTHER FONTS IN OTHER AREAS OF THE SAME PROC.CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: CAPTAIN ADVISED THAT NO ALT IS PROVIDED IN THE ATC PRE-DEP AIRWAYS CLRNC. THE ONLY INDICATOR OF ALTS IS THEIR INCLUSION AS RESTRICTIONS ON THE SID PAGE. HE ALSO ADVISED THAT ON A SUBSEQUENT DEP THE 16000 RESTRICTION HAD BEEN MODIFIED BY NOTAM AND THAT THE FAA HAD PEOPLE AT THE SLC FBOS TO BRIEF PLTS ON THE CHANGE.
