SMOKE WAS REPORTED IN THE CABIN OF A B767-300 SHORTLY AFTER TKOF. THE FLT CREW DECLARED AN EMER AND RETURNED TO THE DEP ARPT.

Narrative

ON CLBOUT; THE CABIN CALLED TO TELL US THERE WAS SMOKE/HAZE AND ACRID ODOR IN THE CABIN. THE JET WAS AT 5000 FT MSL. THE CAPT HANDED ME THE QRC AND I READ AND ACCOMPLISHED THE SMOKE/FUMES/ODOR CHKLIST FROM THE QRC; THEN THE REF ITEMS FROM THE FLT MANUAL. FOLLOWING THIS; THE SMOKE SEEMED TO BE DISSIPATING. WE COORD FOR AN IMMEDIATE RETURN TO ZZZ. WE DECLARED AN IFE AND TOLD THE CTLRS WE HAD SMOKE IN THE ACFT. WE ACCOMPLISHED AN OVERWT LNDG ON RWY 15. THE JET WEIGHED APPROX 370K LBS. AFTER A HIGH-ENERGY STOP VIA MAX AUTOBRAKES; WE CLRED THE RWY AND STOPPED. THE BRAKE TEMPS WERE 8-9 DEGS. I REFED THE BRAKE COOLING CHART; AND WE WERE IN THE MID ZONE. LCL FIRE CREWS MET THE JET ON THE TXWY AND QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED A SMALL BRAKE FIRE ON THE R SIDE. WE DIDN'T KNOW THIS UNTIL AFTER THE FACT -- THE CREW INFORMED US AFTER THEY PUT OUT THE FIRE. WITH THE SMOKE DISSIPATING AND NO OTHER BRAKE FIRE; WE ELECTED TO NOT EVAC THE PAX. 2 OF THE THERMAL RELIEF PLUGS ON THE R GEAR ACTIVATED. THE STATION QUICKLY COORD FOR AIR STAIRS AND BUSSES. THE PAX DEPLANED ON THE TXWY WITHOUT INCIDENT.
