A B737 CAPT REPORTED BECOMING DISORIENTED AFTER LANDING AT SNA WHEN THE COMMERCIAL CHART PAGES DID NOT ACCURATELY REFLECT CONSTRUCTION ZONES.

Narrative

I HADN'T BEEN TO SNA IN A LONG TIME. REVIEWED COMMERCIAL CHART CONSTRUCTION PAGE. COMMERCIAL CHART STATES THAT AFTER XA30; AIRCRAFT WILL BACK TAXI ON RWY 19L TO AVOID CONSTRUCTION. AFTER CLEARING RUNWAY WE WERE CLEARED TO 'TAXI TO GATE.' ON TXWY A AS WE APPROACHED TXWY HOTEL; THERE ARE LOTS OF CONSTRUCTION LIGHTS AND BARRIERS ON THE RIGHT. I TURN TOWARDS THE RUNWAY FOR BACK TAXI BUT REMEMBER NOT HEARING ANY BACK TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. I BECAME CONFUSED AND STOPPED THE AIRCRAFT (NOT ENTERING THE RUNWAY). WE ARE NOW AT THE INTERSECTION OF TXWYS H AND C. WE ASK GROUND CONTROL FOR INSTRUCTIONS AND HE SAYS WE MISSED A TURN TO THE RIGHT! INTO THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE ON THE COMMERCIAL CHART. I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE TURNING THE AIRCRAFT AND WE WERE TOWED BY THE COMPANY TO THE GATE. ANOTHER CARRIER BEHIND US SAID THEY NEARLY DID THE SAME THING. GROUND CONTROL SAID THEY HAD CHANGED THE TAXI ROUTE/CONSTRUCTION AREA THE NIGHT BEFORE AND WERE STILL WORKING ON THE DETAILS. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH MY CHIEF PILOT. THE COMMERCIAL CHART IS WRONG AND SHOULD BE CHANGED. TAXI INSTRUCTIONS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE SPECIFIC. ATIS SHOULD DISCUSS THE CONSTRUCTION CHANGES. IT STATED THAT TXWY C HAD BEEN EXTENDED NEAR TXWY HOTEL. NOTHING ABOUT THE NEW TAXI ROUTE.
