AN A319 CAPT ORDERED THE FO NOT TO CHANGE AN IAD STAR IN THE FMC AFTER ATC ISSUED A RTE CHANGE. A TRACK DEV AND CREW CONFLICT RESULTED.
Narrative
I WAS OPERATING AS THE FO ON FLT TO IAD. WE WERE ASSIGNED THE COATT 4 ARR INTO IAD. PRIOR TO REACHING FAK; THE CTLR CLRED US FOR THE BARIN 1 ARR. AFTER CONFIRMING THIS CHANGE; I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO UPDATE THE ARR IN THE BOX. THE CAPT INSTRUCTED ME NOT TO CHANGE THE ARR BECAUSE HE FELT THAT THEY WERE ESSENTIALLY THE SAME ARR AND HE ALSO EXPRESSED HIS OPINION THAT CHANGING THE BOX DURING THAT PHASE OF FLT WAS DANGEROUS. I TOLD HIM THAT ALTHOUGH THE ARRS ARE SIMILAR; I FELT THAT THEY HAD CHANGED US FOR A REASON AND SHOULD UPDATE THE BOX. HE BECAME VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT NOT CHANGING IT AND ORDERED ME NOT TO DO SO. AS A PROBATIONARY PLT; I FELT VERY TORN IN THIS SITUATION; AS I KNEW NOT CHANGING IT WAS WRONG; BUT TO PURSUE THE ISSUE WOULD HAVE LED TO A VERBAL ALTERCATION. THE ARR WAS NOT CHANGED AND SURE ENOUGH THE APCH CTLRS WERE ON OUR CASE REGARDING OUR POS SHORTLY AFTER BARIN. ALTHOUGH I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT SEPARATION WAS LOST BTWN US AND ANY OTHER ACFT; I DO FEEL THAT THE CAPT'S ATTITUDE AND THE TONE THAT HE SET WAS VERY DETRIMENTAL TO THE OVERALL SAFE OP OF THIS FLT.
