ACR FO REFUSES REASSIGNMENT DUE TO FATIGUE.

Narrative

WE WERE ON ROLLOUT AT LAX WHEN WE WERE DINGED BY ACARS THAT I WAS BEING REASSIGNED TO FLY A TRANSCONTINENTAL FLT (THE ALL-NIGHTER LATER THAT NEXT EVENING) AND TO PLEASE CONFIRM RECEIPT BY ACARS THAT I GOT THE MESSAGE. THE DING STARTLED BOTH THE CAPT AND MYSELF ON THE ROLLOUT DURING OUR LNDG. IT WAS LATE; AND I WAS QUITE TIRED. I CALLED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF THE TIMELINESS OF THE ACARS MESSAGE WITH CREW SCHEDULING; AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT THEY HAD NO CTL OVER WHEN WE GET MESSAGES. I WAS REASSIGNED TO FLY THE ALL-NIGHTER AS THEY PLANNED. BEING TIRED; I JUST WANTED MY BED; AND TO GET TO THE HOTEL ROOM. THE TRANSPORTATION WAS NOT THERE WITHIN 30 MINS OF ARR; SO I TOOK A CAB TO THE HOTEL. UPON ARR AT HOTEL; I FOUND OUT THERE WASN'T A RESERVATION FOR ME. I HAD TO CALL CREW ACCOMMODATIONS; AND AFTER QUITE SOME TIME IT WAS RESOLVED; AND I GOT TO MY ROOM. WHEN I GOT TO MY ROOM; I WANTED TO CHK TO SEE IF THE ALL-NIGHTER ASSIGNED TO ME WAS A LEGAL REASSIGNMENT SINCE IT WAS JUST ABOUT AN ALL-NIGHTER THAT I HAD JUST FLOWN INTO LAX. IF NOT THE DEFINITION OF AN ALL-NIGHTER; IT WAS LATE NIGHT FLYING AT THE LEAST BY DEFINITION. THE NIGHT BEFORE WE WERE LATE GETTING INTO ZZZ AND WE LANDED THERE LATE. I FOUND IN THE CONTRACT THAT IT WASN'T A LEGAL REASSIGNMENT TO SCHEDULE BACK-TO-BACK ALL-NIGHTERS. I CALLED CREW SCHEDULING AND TOLD THEM HOW I FELT THAT IT WASN'T A LEGAL REASSIGNMENT. THEY ORIGINALLY TOOK ME OFF THE TRIP; TO WHICH I WAS RELIEVED; BUT THEN CALLED ME BACK APPROX 20 MINS LATER TO TELL ME I WAS BACK ON THE TRIP DUE TO THE REASSIGNMENT BEING IN THE OP AND NOT SCHEDULED. I TOLD THE CREW SCHEDULING SUPVR I'D CALL HIM WHEN I WOKE UP TO ADVISE HIM HOW I FELT ABOUT ACTUALLY TAKING THE TRIP. BY THE TIME I FELL ASLEEP IT WAS VERY LATE. I WAS VERY TIRED. I WOKE UP AND HAD GOTTEN MAYBE 5.5 - 6 HRS OF SLEEP. I DIDN'T EVEN CALL CREW SCHEDULING. I CALLED A FLT MGR SUPVR AND TOLD HIM ALL THAT HAPPENED. I ADVISED HIM THAT I THOUGHT ME FLYING THE ALL-NIGHTER THAT EVENING WAS A SAFETY ISSUE; AND THAT I DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE THE TRIP. HE AGREED WITH ME; AND I WAS REMOVED FROM THE TRIP. I DEADHEADED HOME; AND WAS HAPPY I DIDN'T ACCEPT THE ALL-NIGHTER BECAUSE I WAS EXTREMELY TIRED JUST FROM MY DEADHEAD THAT LEFT A LOT EARLIER THAN THE ALL-NIGHTER WOULD HAVE LEFT.
