SMALL JET FLT CREW DEPARTS FROM WRONG RWY AT ACT; MISTAKING RWY 32 FOR RWY 1.
Narrative
WE WERE DEPARTING WACO (ACT) ARPT AFTER A LONG DAY OF WAITING FOR PAX. THERE WERE 20+ ACFT THAT ALL HAD PAX SHOWING UP AT THE SAME TIME FOR DEP AND WE QUICKLY LOADED THE PAX AND GOT THE ACFT READY FOR DEP. WE TAXIED OUT FOR A DEP ON RWY 1 VIA TXWY D AND HELD SHORT AT THE END OF THE TXWY. WHEN WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF; WE PROCEEDED FROM THE TXWY ONTO THE RWY AND DEPARTED. AS WE ROLLED DOWN THE RWY; THE CAPT REALIZED THAT WE WERE ON RWY 32 AND NOT ON OUR ASSIGNED RWY 1. (HAVING ARRIVED ON RWY 32; WE KNEW THAT DISTANCE WAS NOT AN ISSUE.) AS WE BEGAN OUR CLBOUT; THE TWR POINTED OUT THAT WE DEPARTED THE WRONG RWY AND SAID THAT IT WAS NOT A PROB AND SENT US TO DEP. THE ERROR WAS A RESULT OF BEING IN A HURRY; COMPOUNDED WITH ALREADY HAVING A VERY LONG DAY. ALSO; THE RWY LAYOUT AT WACO HAS RWY 1 AND RWY 32 INTERSECTING AT THE END OF TXWY D. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN ERROR ON THE CREW'S PART; NOT CONFIRMING THE RWY HDG AND THE ACFT HDG PRIOR TO DEP. A FUTURE PREVENTIVE MEASURE COULD BE IMPLEMENTED BY HAVING A LCL PROC FOR THE TWR TO ADVISE ACFT ON TXWY D HEADING TO RWY 1 THAT THEY ARE ENTERING AN AREA OF INTERSECTING RWYS. LASTLY; THIS IS AN EXCELLENT SCENARIO THAT SHOWS HOW VALUABLE RAAS IS IN TRANSPORT ACFT.
