B747 CAPT REPORTS DIRTY SOCK SMELL SHORTLY AFTER LANDING AND SUSPECTS HYDRAULIC LEAK.

B747 CAPT REPORTS DIRTY SOCK SMELL SHORTLY AFTER LANDING AND SUSPECTS HYDRAULIC LEAK.

Narrative

WITHIN 30 SECONDS OF STOWING THE THRUST REVERSERS ON LNDG ROLLOUT; WE DETECTED A 'DIRTY SOCK' SMELL IN THE COCKPIT. AS SOON AS IT WAS OBVIOUS THIS DIRTY SOCK SMELL WAS PRESENT; I ASKED THE FO TO TURN OFF BOTH PACKS AND I OPENED MY COCKPIT WINDOW AS WE EXITED THE RWY SUSPECTING THE SMELL WAS LIKELY HYD FLUID BASED ON PAST EXPERIENCE. AFTER ARRIVING AT THE GATE; AN ENTRY WAS MADE IN THE MAINT LOGBOOK. I SUSPECT THE ODOR WAS ISOLATED TO THE FLT DECK AS NOBODY IN THE PAX CABIN RPTED ANY USUAL ODORS. IN SPITE OF PROMPTLY GETTING THE PACKS OFF TO STOP THE LIKELY SOURCE OF THE ODOR AND IMMEDIATELY OPENING MY WINDOW TO VENTILATE THE FLT DECK; BOTH ME AND MY FO STILL SUFFERED SOME EFFECTS OF THE EXPOSURE INCLUDING A GENERAL FEELING OF NOT BEING WELL ALONG WITH A METALLIC TASTE IN OUR MOUTHS. I ALSO NOTICED MY EYES WERE BURNING; I DEVELOPED A COUGH; NAUSEA AND DRY HEAVES FOR NEARLY 1 HR AFTER GETTING OFF THE JET. AS OF THIS RPT; I AM FEELING SOMEWHAT BETTER AND I AM ANTICIPATING THAT WE BOTH SHOULD BE OK TO COMPLETE THE REMAINDER OF OUR TRIP PAIRING; HOWEVER; NEITHER ONE OF US WILL HESITATE TO CALL IN SICK IF WE'RE NOT FEELING 100% PRIOR TO DEP TIME. THIS IS THE FOURTH HYD EXPOSURE I'VE HAD SINCE NOV/06. IN MY OPINION; THIS IS 4 TOO MANY AND WE NEED TO BE DOING WHATEVER IT TAKES TO ENSURE THAT NOBODY IS EXPOSED TO ANY SORT OF FUMES SUCH AS HYDS THAT COULD BE HAZARDOUS TO OUR HEALTH AND WELLBEING.
