Synopsis

DFW CTLR DESCRIBED FAILURE TO OBTAIN REQUIRED RELEASES ON SEVERAL ACFT; CITING COMBINED POSITION OPS AND STAFFING ISSUES AS CONTRIBUTORY.

Narrative

I WAS ASSIGNED TO WORK THE LCL E 1; LCL E 2; AND LCL ASSIST POS COMBINED WITH RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL RWYS ON THE E SIDE OF DFW ARPT AND ALL LANDLINE COORD. DUE TO ARPT CONSTRUCTION RWY 17C AND SEVERAL E SIDE TXWYS WERE CLOSED. ALL E SIDE ARRS ARE LNDG ON RWY 17L WHICH IS BEHIND THE TWR; FORCING ME TO SCAN 360 DEGS OF ARPT SURFACE AREA. FURTHER COMPLICATING THE SITUATION IS THE REQUIREMENT TO ISSUE COMPLEX TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO THE ARRS; MONITOR THEIR PROGRESS TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE; AND I HAD TO COMPLY WITH SEVERAL TFC MGMNT INITIATIVES (EDCT'S TO NUMEROUS ARPTS; CALL FOR RELEASE TO SEVERAL ARPTS; CALL FOR RELEASE PROP DEPS; AND CALL FOR RELEASE TURBOJETS ON NON RNAV DEP PROCS). I WAS ON POS FOR NEARLY 2 HRS WHILE OJT WAS PERFORMED ON ADJACENT TWR POS. THE ADDED WORKLOAD OF THE COMBINED POS; COMPLEX TAXI BEHIND THE TWR; AND MULTIPLE CALL FOR RELEASE PROGRAMS WORE ME OUT. DURING THE SESSION I MISSED 2 CALL FOR RELEASES WHICH WERE COMPLETED AFTER THE ACFT WAS ALREADY AIRBORNE. WE USED TO HAVE A MINIMUM OF 7 CPC'S. 2 DEVELOPMENTALS PARTIALLY CERTIFIED; AND 1 DEVELOPMENTAL TRAINING ON HIS FIRST POS WERE ON DUTY.
