A LR45 CREW ENTERED GIPPR IN THE FMS INSTEAD OF GIJ BECAUSE THE CLRNC SAID GIPPER; THE VOR; BUT THE FLT CREW ENTERED GIPPR THE AIRWAY FIX.

Narrative

DURING CLB; IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT A FIX WAS ENTERED WRONGLY INTO THE FMS. THE FIX IS GIJ; CALLED 'GIPPER.' INSTEAD; THE FMS CONTAINED AN INTXN CALLED GIPPR. ONE MIN LATER; ATC BROUGHT THIS OUT TO OUR ATTN AFTER OUR COURSE DEV TOWARD GIPPR INSTEAD OF GIJ WHILE WE WERE ASCERTAINING THE COURSE CHANGE THAT HAD JUST HAPPENED. THE FIX GIJ WAS ENTERED IN THE FMS; AND WE CONTINUED ALONG THE PROPER RTE. ON THE GND I NEEDED TO ASK FOR THE SPELLING OF SEVERAL DIFFERENT FIXES ALONG OUR FLT PLAN RTE. THE FREQ WAS BUSY; AND I HAD TO ASK AGAIN FOR A COUPLE OF FIXES. I FAILED TO NOTICE THAT I HAD THE SPELLING OF 'GIPPER' ENTERED INCORRECTLY. I TYPED IN GIPPR; WHICH I BELIEVED TO BE THE PROPER WAYPOINT. THE PROPER FIX WAS GIJ; WHICH IS CALLED GIPPER. THIS ERROR REMAINED IN THE FMS UNTIL THE EVENT OCCURRED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 795711: DURING THE DEP BRIEF I VERIFIED THE RTE ON THE FLT PLAN WITH THE CLRNC WRITTEN ON THE TOLD CARD. I SAW GIPPER AND THOUGHT IT WAS SHORTHAND FOR THE VOR GIJ (GIPPER). THE INITIAL HDGS WERE VERIFIED WITH THE DEP PROC. I DID NOT VERIFY THE SUBSEQUENT FIXES AS THE CLRNC MATCHED THE FLT PLAN.
