A MECH AND A LEAD RPT ABOUT AN INCORRECT CABIN MGMNT UNIT (CMU) BEING INSTALLED ON A B737-700 ACFT.
Narrative
ACARS INOP. I INSTALLED INCORRECT CABIN MGMNT UNIT AND MISUNDERSTOOD HOW TO VERIFY EFFECTIVENESS AND PART ENGINEERING NOTE. ACFT SHOULD HAVE HAD CABIN MGMNT UNIT INSTALLED WHICH IS OK FOR ALL ACFT. INCORRECT PART FOUND AND REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH CORRECT ONE. AFTER BEING NOTIFIED TODAY OF THIS MISTAKE; I MET WITH MY CREW AND LEADS AND SUPVR TO DISCUSS HOW THIS HAPPENED; SO THAT NOT ONLY I HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS AND REST OF THE CREW ARE MORE AWARE THAT THESE MISTAKES CAN HAPPEN. SO IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 797453: THIS RPT IS BEING SUBMITTED AS A RESULT OF THE WRONG CMU BEING INSTALLED ON ACFT. I WAS THE LEAD MECH THAT NIGHT; AND HAD ASKED THE OTHER MECH IF HE HAD VERIFIED EFFECTIVITY OF THE PART. HE SAID THAT HE HAD AND I HAD NO REASON TO DOUBT HIM. I GUESS HE WAS CONFUSED BECAUSE THE WRONG CMU PART NUMBER WAS INSTALLED. AND AS A RESULT NOT ONLY WILL I CONTINUE TO ASK THE MECHS IF THEY VERIFIED EFFECTIVITY OF THE PARTS THEY INSTALL; I WILL CHK EFFECTIVITY ALSO.
