Synopsis

THE PILOT OF A LIGHT AIRCRAFT; LANDING RWY 7 AT EGE; HAD A CONFLICT WITH A JET DEPARTING OPPOSITE DIRECTION ON RWY 25.

Narrative

I WAS A LIGHT ACFT VFR FROM ZZZ. I HAD FLT FOLLOWING FROM ZDV AND WAS RELEASED TO COMMUNICATE WITH CTAF AT EGE 15 NM SW OF EGE. I RECEIVED THE ATIS INFO WHICH SHOWED WINDS 070 DEGS AT 12 KTS. I ANNOUNCED; EAGLE AREA TFC LIGHT ACFT 15 MI SW LNDG RWY 7; EAGLE LCL AREA TFC PLEASE ADVISE ON FREQ 119.8. NO OTHER ACFT ACKNOWLEDGED. AT THIS TIME I TURNED ON NAV LIGHTS AND STROBE LIGHT BEACON WAS ALREADY ON. AT 5 MI FROM THE FIELD I ANNOUNCED; EAGLE AREA TFC LIGHT ACFT IS 5 MI R BASE LNDG RWY 7 EAGLE. NO ONE ACKNOWLEDGED. I ANNOUNCED; EAGLE AREA TFC LIGHT ACFT IS 2 MI FINAL LANDING RWY 7 EAGLE. I DID NOT OBSERVE ANY OTHER TFC ON THE GND. I CONTINUED AND LANDED IN FIRST 25% OF RWY. WAS ON LNDG ROLLOUT AND OBSERVED A JET DEPARTING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION (RWY 25). AT THIS POINT I SWERVED R AND OBSERVED HE WAS GOING R AS WELL SO I SWERVED BACK TO THE L IN AN EFFORT TO AVOID CONTACT. MY INTENTIONS WERE TO GO OFF OF THE RWY TO AVOID CONTACT; WHICH WAS UNNECESSARY. AT NO TIME DID THE DEPARTING JET BROADCAST HIS INTENTIONS. AS I TAXIED IN; I ASKED FOR A RADIO CHK AND WAS IMMEDIATELY ACKNOWLEDGED BY ANOTHER ACFT THAT HAD WITNESSED THE NEAR MISS AND THEN WAS CONTACTED BY THE ARPT FIRE RESCUE AND THEY HAD ALSO WITNESSED THE NEAR MISS AND THEY ASKED THAT I CALL ON A LAND LINE WHEN I HAD TAXIED TO THE RAMP. THE ONLY OBVIOUS THING THAT WOULD HAVE HELPED TO AVOID THIS INCIDENT IS IF THE JET WAS MONITORING THE CTAF FREQ AND IF HE HAD BROADCAST HIS INTENTIONS BEFORE DEP.
