GA PILOT REPORTS INADVERTENTLY CROSSING HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 27R AT OAK DUE TO ACUTE ANGLE OF APPROACH.
Narrative
AT THE OAKLAND AIRPORT; I WAS CLEARED TO RUNWAY 27R FROM THE FBO. I SWUNG ONTO THE PARALLEL TAXIWAY AND WAS MAINTAINING MY NOSEWHEEL ON THE CENTER LINE OF THE TAXIWAY. I HAD GONE VERY FEW FEET WHEN I NOTICED THAT MY RIGHT WING WAS PARTIALLY OVER THE RUNWAY BOUNDARY LINE. SURPRISED IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. I HAD ANTICIPATED SEEING THE BOUNDARY LINE IN FRONT OF MY AIRCRAFT; NOT SLOWLY CONVERGING FROM A VERY ACUTE ANGLE ONTO THE TAXIWAY FROM THE RIGHT. I QUICKLY DID A 360 DEG TURN TO THE LEFT TO CLEAR THE BOUNDARY LINE AND MOVED TO THE FAR LEFT OF THE TAXIWAY -- OFF THE CENTER LINE. THERE WAS NO INBOUND TRAFFIC TO EITHER RWY 27L OR R AT THE TIME SO I DO NOT THINK THE TOWER WAS OVERLY CONCERNED; OR ELSE THEIR ATTENTION WAS ELSEWHERE (I THINK WATCHING TWO BANNER TOWING AIRCRAFT IN THEIR AIRSPACE). LATER; AFTER STUDYING THE SATELLITE IMAGE DISPLAY OF THAT END OF THE RUNWAY; TWO THINGS COME TO MIND. FIRST; I AM SURE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS DONE THAT. AND TWO; I DON'T KNOW HOW I WOULD CURE THE PROBLEM. PLAINLY; THERE IS INSUFFICIENT SPACE FOR ALL THE ACTIVITIES IN THAT AREA.
