ZMA CTLR DESCRIBED AN EVENT WHEN SUPVR DISCOUNTED REQUESTS FOR BREAKS BASED UPON CTLR FATIGUE AND/OR MENTAL STATUS.

Narrative

I WAS IN MY 7TH HR OF 8 THAT STARTED AT XA00. I STARTED MAKING SMALL ERRORS THAT HAD NO IMPACT ON TFC. CALLING FREEPORT WITH TIME REVISIONS WHEN THE ACFT IS ALREADY ON THE GND. CALLING ACR X ACFT ACR Y. I WAS FIRST UP FOR A BREAK; HOWEVER; MY FRONT LINE MGR THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE BEST FOR ME TO GET ANOTHER CTLR OUT FOR A BREAK RATHER THAN LET ME HAVE MY BREAK BEFORE I GO HOME; WHICH WAS IN 40 MINS. I TOLD HIM THAT I WAS TOO FATIGUED TO WORK A BUSY SECTOR CONSIDERING THAT I HAD MADE MULTIPLE 'SILLY' MISTAKES. HE DID NOT SEEM TO CARE OF THE SITUATION AND STATED FOR ME TO CONTINUE WORKING MY POS UNTIL IT WAS TIME TO GO HOME. I WAITED FOR ANOTHER 5 MINS BEFORE HE FINALLY SAID THAT IT WAS FINE TO TAKE THE BREAK. I'M NOT WRITING THIS STATING THAT I WANTED A BREAK; I'M RPTING THIS AS TO HOW THE FRONT LINE MGRS TAKE NO CONSIDERATION INTO THE EMPLOYEE'S MENTAL STATUS OF THE JOB. FATIGUE IS BECOMING A SERIOUS PROB HERE AT ZMA; ESPECIALLY WITH THE CONSTANT DAY-TO-DAY WX SITUATIONS THAT HAPPEN FROM MAY TO OCTOBER.
